Build a steelworks ahead of time.

You need to research the steelworks so you can mine the Iron Ore deposits before you run out of steel wreckages to dismantle.

You can also find steel with scouts from various locations.

i guessed so. well time to abandone them all

On my build order i don't need more steel till around day 5 by the point where you "need" steel you're probably going into the higher techs. you should probably have steel production by that point. or you'll have alot of idle time. I have a video guide if you're interested https://youtu.be/1xIX-GXekxg

thanks for sharing, checking it

Most important resource to get production for first is Wood - because you need wood to research everything. As long as you have wood, you can still get everything else. I generally fast track to the War Drill (prefer it over the sawmill) and get one started ASAP. Then I go straight to Steelworks (build both on the New Home scenario, you're gonna need all the steel you can get). I generally have a Steel deficit more than anything throughout the game, so I tend to get Advanced Steelworks before any other advanced buildings.

Dude, I restarted from scratch six times. I always ran out of something. It is an illusion that this is an open world. They really want you to follow a general script. You learn by trial and error what to build next, because if you don't you and the town is dead. It is still a fun game I have wasted tons of time on.

you can also pause the game and stop to think or just shuffle people around the different workplaces.

Wood is more important early on because it's not just for early research but also cheap housing. But later, even as early as say day 10 or so, steel becomes more important because most techs need it and you also need steel for bunkhouses. Perhaps the only real use of wood by that point is just occasional improvement upgrades and creating scouts. Tesla city is also crucial to supply the needed steam cores for advanced buildings.

Why not simply build a steelworks? It costs 25 wood and it then produces 60 steel per day. Even if you haven't researched it yet the research itself also requires just wood.

No need to abandon hope.

In the end, steel production dictates the pace the game goes. I can always spam sawmills and coal thumpers and charcoal kilns to regulate excess wood but steel is the limiting factor. As such, I found the priority resource to focus production rate to be steel. That means, upgrades and automatons for that first. Anyone else found it like that?

No one claimed it was open world but you; that's not the dev's fault.
