how to tell what heat zones you have
hi im confused as to how all that heating works. it keeps talking about "heat zones" or upgrading your heat zones. and temperature affecting your heat zone?
specifically i have some buildings relatively far away from the generator and want to raise the temperature there. so i researched the overdrive ability where it says increases temperature in ALL your heat zones. so i researched that turned it on and everything relatively close to the generator turned red. but the builddings at the edge didnt change at all from "chilly". im assuming they are out of the range of the heat zone. how do i tell how big my heat zone is??

Click the central hub generator or the individual steam hubs you might have built to see each one's heat zone.

To extend the heat zone research the range upgrades. To increase the heat level research the power upgrades.

In the temperature overlay you will be able to see a gradual tint between lighter blue and darker blue. That boundary is your heat zone. It always emanates as a circle from the generator or the hubs. Hubs are what you use to generate a heat zone outside of your generator heat zone. Alternatively there's also the heater which is activated directly on the building and heats only that building so it doesn't generate heat zone to the nearby area.

Select the Main Core or a Steam Hub and it shows you the heat zone in which these buildings are effective. For the Main Core it's easy to tell. It's always the first ring (including the buildings that are half in between the second and first ring). With upgrades, it'll include the second, third and fourth.

The big temperature button in the top middle of your screen, has a thermostat icon.

Click it and you'll get the temperature overlay. It also shows you how far the reach of your heat zones is and how it impacts you buildings. (think you figured that out already)

btw, to make your life easier, reassign the temperature overlay hotkey to something other than "O". I put in "Tab" so I can check temperatures real quick.
