2 research stations?
Hello, if I'm researching tech with 2 research stations does it double my progress, or do dupplicates add nothing extra? I didn't notice when I had built my second one so I wanted to confirm whether I had to delete it or not.

1 Station 100%, 2 Station 130%, 3 Station 150%, each one after this is 10% more if i can remember correctly. If you mouse over the research center it should tell you.

if you click the research building and hover over the thing being researched it shows a %. you can have 4 research buildings for a 160-180% research rate. or whatever the cap is for 4.

There is actually no cap. The tutorial shows up to 4, but you can keep building more after at 10% bonus each.

I ran 6 eventually. Took almost no time at all to research everything.

It appears any more then four does nothing for you. It does not decease the time to research. When you click on them when you have four running, it says 180% research rate. If you have 6, it still shows 180% research rate. Both appear to take the exact same number of hours in my testing.

@Malagon, can you confirm it did make it faster for you when you had 6 running over 4?

I just loaded the save and shut down my workshops one-by-one. This is what I got:

1 workshop = 100%
2 workshops = 130%
3 workshops = 150%
4 workshops = 160%
5 workshops = 170%
6 workshops = 180%

Maybe it keeps going higher with additional workshops and there is no cap. I don't have time to check that now but you're welcome to test it out.

wow those are poor specs. No wonder why I thought I wasn't getting any bonuses from having two of them. Doesn't seem worth it at all.

You still research faster. The question is do you have anything better to employ your engineers? If you don't might as well get the additional research, especially as the workshops are heat level 2 buildings so warmer than most alternatives.

i Have 18 and i run at 300% all my engi ar in a workshop

I eventually ran seven just to give my engineers warm places to work at least in the first scenario. Research was ridiculously quick - about 2 level 4 techs a day, but I couldnt tell the breakdown of how much better they got each time. Definately worth it anyway. 10% increments mean a lot in this game. (Generator efficiency, sawmill upgrades, etc)

I built a bunch without doing any math about it, so I went back and reloaded a save and I have 10 (Refugees/Medium difficulty) with a research rate of 220%, which falls in line with the 10% boost per building after 3.

So, glad I did and wasn't getting diminishing stacking returns. The way I figured it, the engineers are best used for research if you possibly can, use workers for the hard jobs, kids for the easy stuff...but now that I've completed all 3 scenarios on medium, it's time to go do them on hard, so who knows what'll change with my strategy.

It makes the mid game a lot easier when you build as much workshops as you can. Whenever you have engineers that have nothing to do, build a workshop for them. It costs very few resources and does not need a heat zone until it gets very cold, the heater is enough. So you can just put them at the edge of the map if you like.

People have to remember that 4 is the sweet spot to rush to, because then you can have 5 people sick and it will not drop under 150% speed. Having 5 or even 6 is a good idea if you have engineers to spare.

I appreciate the help guys, I very rarely ever look at the numbers of an RTS although I should, glad you could simplify it for me truly. :steamhappy:
