MSVCR120.dll
Hi

I installed this game and want to run it, but when I start it via steam://-desktop shortcut, it simply doesn't start.

When I try it by dubble clickin the frostpunk.exe in the install path it says "MSVCR120.dll could not be found - please reinstall" - I did! Multiple times I installed vc_redist.x86 and vc_redist.x64 (visual c++ from Microsoft). So were is the problem?

Regards

That specific DLL is in vcredist 2013, additionally you have to have your system updated as it won't be able to detect certain redists even if they can be installed.

Bear in mind that you also have to have each vcredist year version the game requires, this is not something you can solve by installing only the latest (2017).

Update your Video Drivers

DO NOT use Windows Update for this. You must download the latest video drivers from AMD/Nvidia directly

www.amd.com

www.nvidia.com

Disable your Anti virus and Firewall

Some antivirus and firewall programs block the game. Try disabling these components.

Unplug Controllers

Sometimes controllers (gamepads/wheels/etc) can cause issues with teh game. Unplug any extra controllers you have and see if that helps

Do EVERYTHING

To fix this problem you should download msvcr120.dll file from for example: https://www.dll-files.com/msvcr120.dll.html . Unzip it and paste in C:\Windows\System32 folder.

I tried installing both vcredist, and finally downloading DLL from above link fixed my issue. Thanks :) :steamhappy:

Very helpful, even on a dead thread.

I downloaded the file from the link above and unzipped it and threw it into the game folder and everything worked, thank you very much!

So silly that the installer doesn't just put these there.
I had to download the following dll's and dropped them directly into the Frostpunk top-level folder. I just kept following each "missing dll" error and adding them one at a time until the game finally started:

msvcp120.dll
msvcp140.dll
vcruntime140.dll
vcruntime140_1.dll

I have a newly-installed Windows 10 after an OS drive replacement, and decided to put Frostpunk back on there. I seem to recall going through the same thing a few years back when this thread was new. Solution still works.
