so I just failed the ark, even though I had a fully staffed autonomous robo city, because I didn't have the required food at the begining of the storm (about 20 short).

Heres a tip, Hothouses are not as good as hunters on their own, but staffed with an automaton they work WONDERS. Keep in mind that one hothouse can make 30 food per standard workday. Thats up to 60 when staffed by an automaton. Even more for the industrial variant.

Also, Cookhouses. If you intend on making a stockpile. I suggest using two. Or one with an automaton.

in the ark scenario you can't build hunters.
the key is it to use up all of your steam cores as soon as you recovered the factory plans, then send scouts out to the new landmarks and grab as many steam cores as possible.

#2 Yup, that's exactly it. Screwed me over first time I played as I kept one in reserve so I didn't get the event unlocking those exploration marks untill I already found New Manchester ages ago...

One thing I wonder about, it the ending scene suposed to say "We did our best" even if you save them and youself?

How do you heat the arks? I reserch all required tech and still arks are not heated enought

yup, heaters and steam hubs.
so you managed to suceed in all missions? yet you still got the "we did our best"? that's kinda oxfeces (edited, becuase steam likes to censor), as you get the same ending when you fail at everything :D

Yeah, I think it might be a result of me sending all 3 aid missions to New Manchester at once and still having enough resources to finish the game... dunno.
I've cleared all scenarios on medium and main one on hard now, gonna go try hard Ark and see if I still get the same end message.

Just went through again it on easy. I got the we saved the arks and we saved humanity ending. Try reloading the end save and see if it works. I scouted except one spot that was a dead end with no resources my last playthrough, kept all the promises, had full hope, 26 robits, 1.5k food, 11k coal with 2k gain per day. I would've liked to be able to fight the storm, but the ending scrawl was still nice.

i jsut beat the ark scenario aswell, no laws, saved the ark, saved new manchester. nothing new, except the ending said that i saved my humanity.

but then again the messenger died, so i might not have had the best ending. but i scouted all the places.

Right, so I've just managed to beat it on hard.
Damn it was hard D:

The thing still says "We did our best" but the ending cinematic has "We saved all the Arks" and "Saved New Manchester", so I dunno, seems like either a bug or odd choise of words.

more like the latter, because i think what in their headcanon is supposed to happen is that the temperatures of the storm are so cold, that the arks simply can't be heated, so they die anyways.

Not true. Heaters alone is enough. I got the the no steam hub achievement on The Arks and they all survived.

Just research all the heater upgrades and it is enough to keep the arks on chilly or above the while game wihtout a single steam hub.

You have to scout to find them. When you get the scouts go to the locations with the yellow dot first, they lead you to the factory plans.
