Coal thumper not working?
So i built a coal thumper, it says is making about 56 coal pile /hour. But even when it's working my stock of coal doesn't grow. I have just one 1 generator first level consuming 1 coal per hour...

is this a bug ?

From what i saw you can assign workers to the Coal Pile that the Thumper creates.
Though it wasn't like that for the sawmill, if confirmed this is an oversight/inconsistency.

Afaik you have to have workers transferring coal from the coal pile next to the thumper.

sorry didn't understand... is the coal thumper like a sawmill that can produce wood ? what you have to do to make it produce coal ?

In the description it says: enough for 2 gathering stations. So place 2 gathering stations on range of the thumper and they will take care of the coal. The steam thumper provides for 4 gathering stations/

Or just assign people to the coal pile. Coal mines are much more efficient as a way of gathering coal overall.

Thumpers are good if you have lots of people but not enough for them to do (as you employ people in the thumper, then also collecting the coal piles themselves (either from a gathering station or from the piles directly)

While they may not be the most efficient, they also free up the need to research coal mines or get an outpost up and running so you can get something else with that time instead.

If you already researched faster gathering speed at the beginning of the game, thumpers aren't so bad since you aren't "wasting" that tech research.

Another advantage: Thumpers don't need steam cores.

I keep forgetting about thumpers.

If going fully automated I think Coal mines use less cores per coal produced.

Ok so when you build thumbpers you will have also to gather the pile...
now the question is, is it better the THUMPER or the coal mine ?

which one should you focus on ? or even going with klin ?

Coal mine needs less man power per coal but uses cores. As for kiln no idea not used it.

Coal mine is the absolute best coal source. However there is a super spoilerific downside to coal mines under the following. During the storm coal mines shut down unless you sacrifice people to keep them going.

To avoid the above you have the option of the thumper and the kiln. Thumper takes a ton of manpower. You'll really only be able to spare the people for a single steam thumper and its 4 gathering posts unless you go for automatons.

The kilns on the other hand are godlike. They convert your excess wood (and you will have excess wood eventually) into coal. Its hard to use them early unless you rush the wall drill but they do very good work.
