Combat
How in God's name? I'm in the castle looking for Henry, and and this guy just starts fighting me and the combat is just bad. I looked it up and the controls are the number keys, but it just doesn't work and Indy randomly blocks, walks back, and punches. This game is cool, but the terrible combat really bogs it down.

yeah the controls are REALLY bad for the combat & dependent on the direction you are facing.

but like I can't continue and I'll be damned if I'm going through the catacombs for the 5th time.

You can talk your way out of ANY fight in the game.

Yeah, the combat is just appaling. I lost patience early on for trying to find the magical conversation tree that causes each guard to avoid combat, and rely on that Mixnmojo guide. Castle Brunwald was a slog, but the checkpoint stuff across Germany is just plain awful.

Bah, kids today growing up with WASD and mouse support. Old-timers like myself have no trouble with the num-pad.

Anyway, as for the checkpoint stuff across Germany toward the end of the game, that's easy so long as you give the right item to Hitler...

Thanks for the guide, the fighting part on the castle got a bit frustrating as I kept bumping into fights back to back with eventually too little energy to beat the guards.

The fighting is not awful, it's tricky. 15 years ago I even managed to beat Biff (the 2-meter tall very muscled guy on the 3rd floor of Brunwald castle) in an honest fistfight ("honest" meaning without (spoiler): making him totally drunk before fighting). You should not punch as fast as you can, but instead sometimes step back, block and wait for your punch power to raise enough.

And I am not a fighting game specialist - in fact, fighting games are not my favourite kind of games.

I'm stuck in a castle room with guard both sides of the door. Can't get out without fighting and no power. What to do?
