Castle Brunwald is different
Is it just me or is the section of Castle Brunwald just... weird? The guards are not the same as in the other versions. For example, there's a guard on the first floor as soon as Indy gets there and there seems to be now way to get out of a fight with him. There are several guards that will start a fight with Indy without starting a dialog whether he wears he regular clothes, the servant's uniform or the officer's uniform. I've checked walkthroughs and gameplay videos and it looks like the version on Steam is definitely different. Fights are possible in this game, but they should never be mandatory.

I played the steam version myself and as far as I remmember you can (almost always) avoid fights by using the right uniform/conversation/give item combination. It is however quite difficult sometimes.
Check this [www.lemonamiga.com] out for help.

No, I finished the Steam version too, and the soldiers' behavior is absolutely the same as in the versions I played before.

If you do the right things you can avoid all the fights in the whole game except one, but even in this special fight you can make it so that it could be won with one punch from Indy.

I apologise for the necroposting, but I'm resuscitating this thread because I had the same problem and I lost days trying to fix it and I'm guessing that others have/will have the same problem and will find this thread in the top results of google as I did.

The behaviour of the guards is the same, but what most walkthroughs omit is that if you fail the conversations a few times and get into fights with guards, then there's no way to prevent the next guards from attacking you, no matter what you say, do or wear.

If you end up in that situation, you have no option but to reload a previous save and do Brunwald again from scratch in pacifist mode. That is, talking your way out of every fight.
