Deadzone Rogue

Deadzone Rogue

just my thoughts on the game so far.
I think this game is a nice time. it isn't amazing, and frankly, i don't think that it can do anything to stand out too much, but it is closer to what I was hoping for when i tried the game Rip out. I do think there are some things that could elevate the game.

1. Augments are pretty boring. Having augments that have more effect on the style that you play would be a good improvement, though I understand how it would be difficult to make things more dynamic when in an FPS setting, as opposed to an rpg roguelite.

2. weapons feel fine, but they aren't particularly creative. I think that games like this benefit from more exotic style of weapons. having everything essentially fire the same type of projectile is kind of stale. If weapons had beams, boomarangs, bounces, lobbing, or anything other than what is effectively a bullet could introduce flavor to the game. Or maybe have that be for the grenade slot, or another slot that acts as something exotic or out of the box.

3. Combat music is very very repetitive. to the point i don't want to ever wear my headset while playing.

4. The elemental effects are pretty bland. They aren't significant enough to lean into, which also drastically reduces the value of the augments that affect them. Having the elemental effects be more about effecting playstyle than just doing occasional extra damage would be something to consider. I am excluding ice and gravity? from that because they do have an affect on how you fight other than more dps.

5. While it claims the combat areas are procedurally generated, it really doesn't feel that way. yes the rooms are sometimes slightly different, but for the most part they are the same rooms over and over, with maybe a 1% change.

While I don't think this game is remarkable in anyway, I do intend to keep an eye on it. I expect that I will buy it when the price is right. Having a decent brainless shooter i can just enjoy for a little bit every now and then would scratch a bit of an itch for a while.

Thank you for reading.
