new upcoming log out
"When these changes eventually go live, the logout timer will increase to match the ship logout timer. This functionality will be consistent on both PvE and PvP servers, however, the values of the timer may vary. Any enemy contact will still stop the log out as it currently does. The intention of this is to give players definitive knowledge that their ship is safe and they don’t need to worry about it. As always, feedback on these purposed changes is welcome! Please let us know on our usual channels or in the comments what you think."

Any news on what they mean by enemy contact, and if the time that it currently takes will still be the standard?

Enemy contact means someone grappled to the ship I think. I think the current time is 3 minutes, I think it should be increased to 5 minutes personally.

I think just standing on the ship will keep it from logging, but I was wondering how the changes would effect this. All I can find is the quote above.

I don't have any additional information on this but as I understand it all the mentioned change does is increase the ~charater~ idle till log to be the same length of time as the 3 min ship despawn on PVP and whatever it is on PVE. Everything else about interrupting the ship from despawning remains the same.

So you can start the log out process and watch your screen for the entire 3 minutes until both character and ship safely exit the game.

What isn't yet clear is if the character will also remain in the game for that 3 minutes even if you decline to watch for the whole 3 minutes. (Or 30 seconds or whatever it is on PVE.)

Also makes you wonder if you can start the log out process and continue to fight, or will this stop the log out. Let us hope it will be broken by any interaction with the ship.

It already is broken by any interaction with the ship and Sylvain says that remains the same, as I read it. I assume the SHIP log is broken and not necessarily the character log - again as it is now.

You know how your character can remain in the game but uncontrolled for 20 secs while you're logging out but most of us just click past it? That 20 secs changes to 3 min. That's the only difference we'll see player-side.

Basically that 20 second timer with the "logout now" and "cancel" buttons was always a place holder for a character logging out state that matches the ship logout timer. You can't do anything in that logout window other than babysit your ship to make sure it logs out safe. Essentially you can watch your own ship despawn instead of having to ask a friend to. If you want to resume control of the character you have to cancel the logout process just like now with the 20 sec character timer.

To clarify a little, it used to be that the character remained in the game for that whole 20 secs even if you clicked to log out now. Logging out immediately was surrending the character to whatever might happen to it for the remainder of the 20 seconds. That was changed to instalogging for the character because the 20 second timer was a) nearly pointless in its goal of preventing combat logging and b) exacerbating some of the other issues Syvain mentioned in the artlcle. At the time Bossa said "Hey, logging out will someday take the full 3 minutes but for now we're just letting the character instalog. Sorry about that."

Yeah that makes the most sense, to have your toon stay there for the 3 min while it logs with the ability to click cancel.

You will still be free to logout your character and your ship will continue to log out like it does not, but if you wish you can sit and wait the 3 minutes knowing the ship will logout as your character does. This only occurs if you are the last owner of the ship to log off.

what else is new?
