how to use an engine?

ok so just got my first generator and engine...

I have read that engines DO NOT need to be connected to generators (unles this has now changed?)

I have ONE engine (only) on the back of my sip (prop facing UP - towards the sky not ground)

Tank is FULL and throttle forward = no luck

uhm well if it faces upward if you press space the engine should kick in and help you getting up faster.
Or if you press shift the engine should also kick in and help you getting down faster.

Throttle will only control engines facing forward or backward, though backward engines is a bad idea.

yea your engine is facing upwards -_-, so it would only work when you are rising or lowering, just face the props foward and it will work, and remember this is a physics game so location actually matters
