my biggest gripe is that the "defect" option mid battle is no longer availiable. (in 7 an officer could convince you to switch sides)
There are other things if i am not mistaken that were taken out, the gameplay list by itself says alot. Im not saying DW8E is bad, i am more fond of it than 7E but it seems 8E has less content than 7E to me, albeit different content. (which is good imo)
Because I've played a good amount of 7 and haven't really felt anything vital was lost.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For those that don't want to read a wall of text tl;dr: Arguebly more things had bigger consequence and felt more polished in DW7E then the things DW8E.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Personally DW8E feels like a somewhat dumbed down DW7E.
Strategams are the only upgraded feature alongside marriage.
Everything else is just... really basic, most options as ruler have little to no impact to anything, other then virtue, which in itself does barely anything other then making a few things easier/harder in the alliance/request side and interactions.
While DW7E had more options that actually did things, like defect during battle to switch sides, more kinds of cutscenes, I personally find the strategams in DW7E better too but thats a personal thing, and I feel as if repairing and keeping lands happy in DW7E mattered more.
Being a officer in 7 also felt a bit more interesting then it is now, right now its just invade and thats it, don't bother suggesting things, you'll rarely succeed.. yeah enough rambling.
Ultimately, you had a lot more control over what you were able to do, especially given the (ironically random) card system that was something of a precursor to strategems, although they were used outside battle. And I think the reason this was is because, due to there not being vagrants or non-ruler players (save for during combat), the gameplay was more focused and less general. Once DW6E came out, which brought about a vast number of changes (how base capturing worked, the introduction of the vagrant system, a completely redone leveling and skill system, among other things), the scope for the game became broader and less focused (though not necessarily worse).
