Voice Packs
I'd be more than happy to pay for English CAW voice packs, but I'd find it harder to justify the purchase for Japanese CAW voice packs. Not to ♥♥♥♥ talk the language mind you; but in my mind we'd be buying different text read outs more than anything else. From what little I "can" tell, the performance seems good; it's just harder to appreciate without understanding Japanese.

I'm curious to see how Koei will handle this release. Time will tell I suppose.

My problem with the English dub was that not everything was dubbed in DW8. During cutscenes, there's usually a narrator in the Japanese version, and if you talk to random peons or anyone else during battle preparations, again you cannot hear anything from them, while the Japanese version does have dialogue for all of them.

So if they did actually dub Empires, I would like it to be fully dubbed this time.
Yeah, I liked DW6 Empires for it having an English dub, but by this point I'd be surprised if they patched it in. I wonder if Chinese players are similarly dissatisfied by a lack of dub for them too? If anything this IS a game featuring their romantasized history.

At this point I'd take any dub they'd offer, complete or no. Preferably fully dubbed though, yeah.

DW Empires is unlikely to ever get English Dubs again. We are lucky the base game is even getting English Dubs. Here's why:

Doing voice overs is extremely expensive in just one language. Japan is obviously going to appeal to their own first. English is the obvious next language they would dub because English is where the money is at. However, even Japanese developers are largely hesitant to do this due to declining interest in Japanese products around the world in the last decade or so.

DW7 did not have English Dubs, if I remember correctly, and there was a major outcry by fans in the West. KOEI rectified that mistake with DW8, but as suggested, they did a half-baked job compared to the Japanese Dub. It's likely their investors do not see value in the English Dub and they really don't want to support it.

This isn't uncommon as more and more recent Japanese-developed games have only been released with Japanese VO (only the biggest publishers can afford English VO as well). We'll be lucky if KOEI continues doing English VO for the base game. It's unlikely it will happen, however, for a separate expansion like Empires.

It's a shame too as I actually believe the English VO is extremely well-done in Dynasty Warriors.

I watched the Three Kingdoms Chinese TV series and it was nice hearing everyone speaking Mandarin. Yeah, I would definitely take a Mandarin dubbed version of DW. However, it should be noted that ancient Chinese apparently sounded nothing like any Chinese dialects that exist today if this video is anything to go by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__vHa_JZ_iM , so it wouldn't really be authentic anyway, but then ROTK is just fiction and not really authentic either.

The problem I've heard is just that Koei got to cough up a lot dough for those voice actors, and they aren't as professional as the Japanese ones, which at this point should be obvious that Japan simply has a bigger and better voice recording industry.

But if you listen to the ending credits of DW8XLCE, there's actually a Chinese song playing, so no it's not totally devoid of Chinese voices.

Yeah, I figured it was likely an expense issue, pity that corners like that have to be cut but it happens I guess. I am glad that they can at least grant us these games on PC in the first place; granted my game is still rather broken graphically, but I've learned to overlook such problems.

It's such a niche game it's not a huge surprise that they need to cut corners. I recall people ragging on the repetitive gameplay of the older titles but hey, it's only getting better with these new releases. Maybe with more popularity Koei will be able to afford more expenses like English dubs.

It's a shame, but at least they purportedly planned on including a dub for this game. Maybe the next time around they'll get their chance to do so.

Hell, I'd even take those voice actors at this point.

The camp value would be fantastic.

Ah, man... that old DW event transition musical sting has got me all nostalgic now.

Lol that's pure nostalgia. How I miss the days of Cow Cow and Cow Pee leading the charge to conquer all of China...
