Some of them are yes, its usually obviously if they are custom due to their names (name of the vagabond unit in kingdom info also lets you know right away if their custom)

The game randomly downloads custom characters and puts them in your game if you have guest officers on

But what if those units are actually called more authentic names? Then you have to get digging.

Except if I'm mistaken, Custom Units are Vagabond Units that appears on the bottom of the kindoms list. So it is quite easy to identify them. Plus, I don't remember having ever seen more than two Custom Units per scenario.

Yea, but if they aren't united under a banner, or are due to random NPCs doing it, it can get harder to identify them.

However, most people don't put some effort into making them sound chinese at the very least. I tried, but I dunno how succesful that was. Oh well.

I don't know if it works for all but, I found the quest "Defeat the vagabond unit" quite a way to get new ones to keep showing up. I beat a vagabond unit only to have another take its place, a way to farm it maybe?

I have CAW name Crystal who is just the mix of Zhenji and Daqiao Weapon and Mousou, Uploaded for a week now with Aide to King as Ways of Life.

I don't know what her style will be in other people game, But when I do Ways of Life for new CAW she just make the games easy for me. lol

Never took the time to make a vagabond unit, but Kite might be being pumbled in some of your playthroughs. Or maybe not? :)
