Obviously, it's all random, so the more Custom characters you have, the more chance you'll run into them.
As for custom soldiers and flags, only you can use them to affect your forces, but if you use the custom scenario feature, you can assign those to a CPU force I think..... I'm not sure on this
Presst start, go to settings. That is where you can set your custom warhorse, units and banners. You can also change the music and the residence, war council hall and throne room there.
I have been doing all my quests solo, even though I have 2 other officers in my vagabond unit, and now I am part of a kingdom, but I am still the only one that shows up somewhere in the pre battle officers screen, can you only do quests solo?
also, why is there no auto save? The game crashed after I named my first daughter, then when I went back, none of my quicksaves were there, so I had to restart all over ;_;

You do have to save manually, but there is a quick save option by pressing delete. To save manually, go to start>system>save. That also allows you to see how many turns you have taken.
