That's why I got Empire over the other one myself. I like being the person who unified China with my own story and getting married and having kids keep up my legacy.
Cept my kid came out looking nothing like me and was a huge disappointment.
I've unified China 3 times now and I'll do it again probably. Being a ruler and setting policy is kinda fun.
Since you have DW8CE you know its mostly story driven scenarios related to how china got unified.
Empire does not follow a traditional story as tightly as DW8CE since empire focuses more on you being able to create a character and using him/her to conquer china. Of course you can still use all the characters from DW8 if you dont want to create your own.
For example you can start out as LuBu and recruit cao cao, sun jian and guan you and go together to rule the land under your banner or you may decide to serve as xun ye helping cao cao realise his dream and then back stab him by trying to rebel and take over his lands.
Basically you get more freedom to more things outside of battle that can effect what happens in battle.
any other questions just ask
DW8XLCE is more fleshed out and looks better.
Empires is basically a big add-on, but DW8XLCE is the actual experience.
