Why did my chester disappear when I entered the caves?
At first I thought that because I was a vortox, he left, but no, he just disappeared when I entered the caves

Chester can't enter the caves

You'll automatically drop the eyebone at the cave entrance you entered into.

chester is overworld only, although he has a counterpart called hutch that can be obtained by finding the star-sky in the caves, and likewise they are caves only (which sucks, as they're quite a bit better)
