Walter has a really good skill tree. Different ammo for different occasions, Slingshot enhancements (fire rate, range), pretty useful scout perks, Woby can help in a bunch of new different ways and even teleport.
Walter has never been in better position.
It feels like Klei really cooked that skill tree compared to others.
A Thulecite Club gets 200 uses for 4 Thulecite and 4 Nightmare Fuel. 1 Thulecite = 6 Thulecite Fragments. 4 crafts give you 120 shots, which is 4 Thulecite Fragments and 4 Nightmare Fuel. Making as many Cursed Rounds as the Thulecite requirement to make a Thulecite Club is 720 shots. Obviously you need lots of Nightmare Fuel in comparison, but you have a ranged weapon that farms nightmares.
Woby's dash and affinity skills are pretty bad if you use both WASD and the mouse to move. You can't disable it, but you can turn off the teleport for some reason? The skills seem like they're meant for you to be riding Woby while fighting.
The skills that allow Woby to pick up items, duplicate food, and become a drying rack are pretty good. I think they would work well if you use a Beefalo, but I haven't really tested it.
I think the most important skills on Walter are his grip customization skill (for BQ and void grips), and extra round yield. You basically attack as fast as regular weapons with those grips, and the +10 rounds (33% increase) is great.
So you can aggressively use magic items too with how quickly he can chunk his sanity back to full. A firestaff goes a long way for how efficiently this beefalo taming boy can make slurtles produce slime.
