If you're looking for two people on the same computer to play together, on regular Dont Starve there is a local mod that you can download!
anyways for now I will likely use the key and skype if I want to play but by the time DST is no longer beta I hope they have hotseat in because I would perfer not having to pay another $20...
I tend to feel this way about games that look amazing and fun to play with my friends but are only local and none of my friends live near me since I met them all online. :V It makes nintendo games pretty lonely when one of my best friends lives on the other side of the country...
As nice as it feels to be on the reverse side of this for once, I do sympathize with you. I don't know how local co-op would work but maybe I can help brainstorm a workable solution here?
Split-screen might be the best way to go about it, probably vertical. Since the game already supports controllers I think it would be an excellent thing to play with Big Picture mode.
Usually you don't need internet for LAN, but with Don't Starve I think you have to log in to even be able to create or search a game, so at least right now internet is necessary.
As someone who mostly plays this game on vita, I can say that controllers aren't broken for this game, but they do work differently than the keyboard. I had to get used to using the keyboard when I started playing it on PC.
There might be GUI problems with split screen, is it possible for an account to be family-shared and play over LAN like that though? I get what OP is saying, they don't want to pay for the same game twice which is the problem most people have when a game doesn't support local co-op so I'm wondering if there's a way for a host to stream the game to other machines through LAN?
It still works fine but I would not recommend it. Also I find the button prompt icons that pop up over the closes object to you a bit of an eyesore. They really did a good job with the controller, but if you have the choice there is very little good reason to use a controller over keyboard - considering the game can't pause in multiplayer.
That is certainly true. Inventory management is definitely less intuitive on a controller and if the game didn't pause for me when in my inventory I would probably die a lot more than I already do.
That's true, although that would be a pretty cramped experience. Unless your monitor is huge how are you both going to have ample space to have 2 keyboards on one desk and still be able to see the screen?
well most people have those tiny things for eating while watching something/for guests so....
