Don't Starve Together

is this real local multiplayer or LAN?
I don't count lan as local multiplayer because you still need the internet and more than one computer... pretty much I am asking if you can plug a extra controller in and play this on one single computer with only a single copy of the game?

so another one of those games that seems amazing and fun to play while you talk one on one with a person who is THERE! that even says local multiplayer that sadly requires the internet and more than one computer....

you can have two computers in the same room, or even play and speak from skype, however don't starve together doesn't support such things as controllers, although the real one does.

If you're looking for two people on the same computer to play together, on regular Dont Starve there is a local mod that you can download!

Still is in beta so they might be planning to add in controller support.

LAN doesn't mean you need to be conneceted to the internet, just to a network. You could literally have both computers hooked up to an old router, without a modem or internet connected, and be able to play together.

yes but you need two copys (once don't starve together comes out in full the beta is no longer valid so that key well you get the drift) and you need two computers... also I perfer having the person right next to me and not using a glitchy mod that is no longer getting worked on....
anyways for now I will likely use the key and skype if I want to play but by the time DST is no longer beta I hope they have hotseat in because I would perfer not having to pay another $20...

I tend to feel this way about games that look amazing and fun to play with my friends but are only local and none of my friends live near me since I met them all online. :V It makes nintendo games pretty lonely when one of my best friends lives on the other side of the country...

As nice as it feels to be on the reverse side of this for once, I do sympathize with you. I don't know how local co-op would work but maybe I can help brainstorm a workable solution here?

Split-screen might be the best way to go about it, probably vertical. Since the game already supports controllers I think it would be an excellent thing to play with Big Picture mode.

Split screen is a terrible idea for this game. Controllers suck too, they really feel cool to walk around with but the crafting and especially inventory management just kills it.

Usually you don't need internet for LAN, but with Don't Starve I think you have to log in to even be able to create or search a game, so at least right now internet is necessary.

As someone who mostly plays this game on vita, I can say that controllers aren't broken for this game, but they do work differently than the keyboard. I had to get used to using the keyboard when I started playing it on PC.

There might be GUI problems with split screen, is it possible for an account to be family-shared and play over LAN like that though? I get what OP is saying, they don't want to pay for the same game twice which is the problem most people have when a game doesn't support local co-op so I'm wondering if there's a way for a host to stream the game to other machines through LAN?

I've played with a controller for a few hours and got used to it as well. The problem is mainly inventory management. At least on PC the game pauses while you open a chest and move items, in multiplayer that is not possible and makes you much slower than with mouse + keyboard.

It still works fine but I would not recommend it. Also I find the button prompt icons that pop up over the closes object to you a bit of an eyesore. They really did a good job with the controller, but if you have the choice there is very little good reason to use a controller over keyboard - considering the game can't pause in multiplayer.

split screen could work also you can plug in two keyboards XD so they could always make it work that way!

That is certainly true. Inventory management is definitely less intuitive on a controller and if the game didn't pause for me when in my inventory I would probably die a lot more than I already do.

That's true, although that would be a pretty cramped experience. Unless your monitor is huge how are you both going to have ample space to have 2 keyboards on one desk and still be able to see the screen?

That is such a specific feature that I doubt they would add it in since you need to have a computer keyborad set up in a specific way that most peole won't have bother with it and as the guy with the katakana symbol for a name said
