Did Not Receive Extra Copy

I already own Don't Starve, so I wanted to pick up the Frontier Pack on sale and pass them around. I added Together to my library, and gifted the 2nd copy to a friend. However, I don't have an extra copy of Don't Starve.

What gives?

But Steam's policy makes it so that you get an extra copy in your gifts inventory.

"Includes: Don't Starve, and two copies of Don't Starve Together - Send the extra copy to a friend!"

I was supposed to get an extra copy of Don't Starve as per policy.

If you DON'T have Don't Starve, the Frontier pack gives Don't Starve and 2 keys for Don't Starve Together for $19.99.

If you DO have Don't Starve, the Frontier pack gives 2 keys for Don't Starve Together for $5.
Yes, it does still state you get Don't Starve but the wording on Steam is as if someone does not have Don't Starve.

You can use one key for yourself and then gift the other key to someone else. If Don't Starve Together is given, they do not need Don't Starve to play Don't Starve Together.

And I did just that. Activated one key and gave the other to someone who had gifted me the original game long ago. I was just expecting to have another Don't Starve copy to give to someone else.

They need to fix the info page then, IMO.

No they don't the info page is correct for those who don't already own Don't Starve. It even warns you in bright orange letters before clicking Confirm Purchase that you won't receive an extra copy.

Klei and Steam have done everything they can. At this point is user awareness.

But didn't you get the message/warning when you had the game in your cart?
It goes something like "According to our records you already own one or more of the items included in this package. If purchasing for yourself see the Extra Copies support article to determine whether the items you already own can be shared with friends" And it refers to a link where it's said in most cases extra copies aren't given. It's just Steam policy.

It's all fair and done anyway, I'm not complaining or being mad. I just had a different expectancy, automatically assuming that I'd get an extra. It's fine though.

No, no, no. I just wanted to know if you got a message like that because it's supposed to show it if you have an item from the package. If you didn't get one, it might be a bug.

I kind of agree that it's a bit confusing with how it's said on the store page. At least there's the warning in the cart.

To be honest, it does say that it includes Don't starve and two copies of the multiplayer, share them around! The policy says that you don't get the extra copy UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED. It's easy to misunderstand that the "share them around" or whatever the closing statement is is meant for both the multiplayer and don't starve (as someone who already owns don't starve). I think ammending the last part with "share the multiplayer DLC around" or something will immediately disolve any confusion, which I can see there being a decent amount of.

The sheer fact that so many people are confused and expecting another copy of DS to send to a friend is proof that the store page needs to be reworded. I've never seen so many people confused and disappointed in not getting their second copy with another game launch.

No, you don't. You'll either have it already or get it regardless if you buy into Early Access, but the person you gift to doesn't need DS to play DST, and when DST launches it's a stand-alone product.

So think of this as buying DST for a friend at 66% off, and getting into the beta for free as a bonus. Pretty good deal; that's why you can only buy it once.
