It's called rubberbanding (if you get "teleported" back where you were like few seconds ago). The fact that you just walked around without anyone makes server more RAM demanding and if host's PC doesn't have much of it, it can cause lags and delays in sending information. So... whether or not you are host or client you might get lag.
I recommend you to host if you have beefy PC or get on server with lowest ping possible.

My friend has lag too. I'am hosting from a computer with 8gb ram and i5-3470 procesor, and my friend still has lag. We are conected in LAN Cable and we have 150 MB internet conection. I think the problem is with the game.

We play from the same room and the one who has join the host, has lag. We play from a computer and a laptop( who has minimum system requirments ). I don't think the lag problem is from the older comp, but i'll check with anoter stronger pc.

Experiencing similar here. I can run MWO at 5760 x 1080 without dropping below 30, yet my friends keep ruberbanding. We've had more deaths due to lag than anything else (hell, we've almost survived two years in the current world).

I agree the problem is with the network part of the software. I get huge lag sometimes, even playing on LAN. The game freezes when I try to pick objects up, or access chests. It is like the game is trying to sync every micro-action with the server. If I am accessing a chest and no other players are within a mile of me there should be no need to sync immediately. That is if the architecture of the network code was well designed. (Due to what I am seeing, it absolutely can not be).

I think it might be a memory leak. That's the only thing I can think of. It slowly gets worst and quite honestly the game is UNPLAYABLE at best with this type of lag.

I've run into rubberbanding on both of my computers. One has 4 Gigs of ram, the other has 16. Whatever it is, the problem is not on our end.

i like to use the console command for extra speed. While this mod removes rubberbanding, it also makes me go slower. I've made the comprimise to use the pickypickypicky mod that removes the harvest animation for most nodes.

The mod is PickyPickyPicky by Afro1967. It removes the animation for harvesting most nodes so you can move faster. Since i cannot use console commands to run faster on servers i do not host, i use this mod instead.

I just tried no more lag its a bit better. Its game it self i think even if you have problem with LAN, me and my friend also have lag issues. its not like other games. You can compensate lag but in this nope pigs hit you from 50 meter away, its really annoying
