The New Crafting Menu sucks and is bad
Honestly fine, maybe the old one needed tweaking. Favorites makes sense, its a bit more optimized overall, but the damn thing is overly crowded. Not to mention inconvenient.

The old one fit all of the items in less tabs, meaning I spent less time navigating the menu.

The structure of the tabs is also very bad. Before each category was on the left side of my screen, I could sort of glance at it and plan out in my head what various components or items I needed to craft.
Now, there is a stupid parent tab that you have to open that houses all the child tabs (categories). Now I have to navigate these smaller icons within this huge immersion breaking menu that pops up and its confusing.
Rather than having them packaged inside a parent menu that breaks immersion, I would prefer just having the categories on the left like before, and having to scroll if new tabs were added.

Also, they are categorized super inefficiently, almost to an insulting degree.
Do we really need separate tabs for Summer items and Winter items? I think they definitely went overkill on the amount of tabs, its all messy to look at to say the least.

I mean there has to be some better cohesion for how you divide these items into categories, its so bad its almost funny.

I might make a parody mod called "even more crafting improvements" where I divide each item into its own category.
Who needs a tools category? I'll just give the Flint ax, Flint pickax, Gold ax, Gold pickax, all their own categories. Since I guess the logic is: more = good

Each item of clothes is further divided by color
Since we love cluttering now might as well go all out.

Yeah I know this is a bitter rant, but why change something that worked. What did we gain _really?_

The old one sucks and is bad, the new one is great.

It's objectively better. It like it went from terraria slow and huge crafting list to the expanded list when you click on the little hammer icon.

Yes it's less tab before, but do you realise the lenght of items in these tabs, it was ridiculously huge.

Way more beginner friendly with the new categories. They waste much less time looking for relevant craftings.

The small and compact icons allow to quickly watch and spot what you want to craft without having to spin your mouse wheel. Without any risk of skipping the item you want to craft. You even have research bar!

Auto crafting the refined items like rope and plank save you the time you would waste juggling between the craft.

Finally the shortcuts you can set is so good, when set properly you barely open the crafting tab anymore.

Anyway, for you OP I think there a mod to revert to the old ui.

Old one was garbage, endless scrolling nightmare.

New one is a lot better yea tabs are something to get used to but it more than makes up for it with QoL features like search bar , favorites , customizable quick craft tabs and ingridients auto crafting.

It's much less annoying to craft what you want in the new one.

The new one is arguably less beginner friendly and intuitive. This isn't an opinion either, if we really wanted to we could run a test on the new and old system and see what percentage of players struggle to learn it. Actual data.

"Endless scrolling nightmare" everything was right where it needed to be. The icons were big, the categories made sense.

This new craft menu is just visual diarrhea.
They could literally just add a search function and some of the other QOL improvements to the old one and it would be perfect.

The new one is objectively more beginner friendly. There's a search bar and the filters make sense. Things can be in multiple filters to make them easy to find (such as light & winter) instead of things being arbitrarily strewn around with no sense. Why is a bird cage in structures but a crock pot in food? Why is the survival tab just a bunch of completely random things that didn't fit into a different tab better?

The old one requires you to pre-emptively scroll through every single list and memorize, yes MEMORIZE, where the items are, because where they are was incoherent. The new one lets you just click the button you want and quickly see all the items that fit the bill. Simultaneously. Instead of scrolling for an hour only to see that the item you wanted wasn't actually in that tab.

The old menu has 0 advantages. Literally the only reason someone would prefer the old one is if they already used the old one before and hate when anything changes. There has never been one single new player who hasn't used the old menu complaining about the new one.

Only 13k downloads because the new menu is just way better

What did we gain? A much better craft menu. Finding things is way easier, it just takes time to adjust. Plus, the search bar is a thing.

I still remember the old crafting with my friends. I needed to told where x item were in the crafting list, many times.

the old one worked fine for me, i still haven't been able to locate the bird cage in the new one without typing it into the search bar (it isn't grouped with structures like it used to be), i would prefer it if the menu used the old tabs (with each item only appearing in one of them) but with the new layout

You and me both, the new UI is definitely confusing and probably only done so they can brag they made it look slicker or some crap. Why change it when the old one was good and the fanbase has used it for over 8 years. I really don't understand why they gotta increase the amount of tabs now I sometimes waste a solid minute just to find something that I could have easily found in surivial or science.

Search and ability to adding to favourite is the only thing that is good about new crafting menu. Everything else sucks and absolute mess.

If one day where mod craft menu tweak which adjust and mimics old crafting menu stops working - Is the day I will quit DST and never come back

It takes adjusting too. I was so pissed when It first came out, and I still don't like some things, but now, I can actually get stuff done faster, while running around- and its saved me several times where as-- I would have died in the older menu version--

Give it some time.

To the nay sayers,
Maybe this is just me, but everyone saying you had to memorize the old one I just don't get it.
I honestly didn't even really have to learn or memorize the original one, it actually just came naturally to me the first time I played. So I honestly just can't relate to that.

Additionally, I can't fathom how more tabs is somehow better though. More tabs is less space effecient, less tabs is less accurate. Its a trade off. I prefer less of my screen being taken up at a time.
Also for example of why its bad to me is that the thermostat item is both under structures and the cold tab. A lot of structures are like this, under several tabs. Because technically yes, it is accurate, but it is redundant. Redundancy is inherently inefficient in this case.

I will remain open minded and continue to use it for now, but if it becomes too annoying I will join the 13k logic enjoyers and download the hybrid mod
