But if you're at the stage that you can do something purely for cosmetic value like build walls you should have the armour to clean up a flock of pengulls.
...after 5 explosions I went in to finish off the 3 survivors with a spear, and they still killed me lol.
To fight pengulls, you need to split them up. It's impossible to fight 2 at a time unless you have really good armour and a weapon which can kill them in one hit, because 2+ pengulls will stunlock you to death. Of course, in DST you can alternate attacks from multiple players so that the pengulls continually re-aggro on someone else (and thus never get a chance to stunlock anyone... in fact, you should be able to stunlock THEM).
Or just use them as a trap for the Deerclops later -- they probably won't kill him, but they'll slow him down and leave him vulnerable to attacks from behind while he's focussed on them.
As for getting rid of them, kill em in their sleep, run away to lose aggro and start again. Or plant a load of trees around the nest, let them grow then set em on fire and go kill the ones who survived the burnination after.
