what do you mean eating away your shelter? the only thing they can grab is eggs if they're on the floor. leave the eggs in chests or in an ice box if that is the problem.

I built a round of stone wall for the fire pits and science machines, etc. They were picking the walls pretty hard and got damaged very quickly

You come to terms with them with the sharp end of a spear.

In all seriousness it's tedious but you could chase each one far away and take them on one by one.

But if you're at the stage that you can do something purely for cosmetic value like build walls you should have the armour to clean up a flock of pengulls.

have you tried uninstalling? thats usually a good strategy to fend them off

You could try feeding a group of pigs meat, and then make them attack the colony. If you have resources to make football helmets for them, that would be advisable.

I usually attack them at night. That way maybe only three of them will actually wake up and attack you if you keep kiting them. Make sure to have a lot of campfires running.

I once tried to kill off a pengull invasion with gunpowder...

...after 5 explosions I went in to finish off the 3 survivors with a spear, and they still killed me lol.

To fight pengulls, you need to split them up. It's impossible to fight 2 at a time unless you have really good armour and a weapon which can kill them in one hit, because 2+ pengulls will stunlock you to death. Of course, in DST you can alternate attacks from multiple players so that the pengulls continually re-aggro on someone else (and thus never get a chance to stunlock anyone... in fact, you should be able to stunlock THEM).

Or just use them as a trap for the Deerclops later -- they probably won't kill him, but they'll slow him down and leave him vulnerable to attacks from behind while he's focussed on them.

the pengulls are trying to make a beeline for their nesting ground and they'll knock down anything in their path to get to it, so either you've built your base nexto or on a nesting ground or its in the middle of the path they wanna take.
As for getting rid of them, kill em in their sleep, run away to lose aggro and start again. Or plant a load of trees around the nest, let them grow then set em on fire and go kill the ones who survived the burnination after.
