Try these steps.
(1) Start your offline game but make sure you are connected to the net.
open console, type c_save(). This will save the world.
(2) Go to the portal and drop all your stuff because this will create a new character
but our world/base will remain the same.
(3) Go to Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether\save
Find the saveindex file and open it with a notepad.
(4) Ctrl+F to find your server name, after the server there should be a setting which says
online_mode = false
Just change this to True
Save and exit
(5) Now host your server again and it should let you choose Public or Friends setting etc.
Just BE WARNED that it will ask you to create a new character.
The only wrinkle: when I reentered my world, all my items were by the gate as expected, but my exploration of the map was wiped. Maybe next time I could prepare a map scroll before the process?
Go to your save location on disk. In that directory there is a "session" folder. In that subfolder is another uniquely named folder. In that folder are the save files numbered for the number of days played in that world. It also contains uniquely contained subfolders for each of the players.
Offline players will have a 12 character folder name.
Steam/Klei players will have a folder with a unique name 8 character prefixed by "KU_" ending with a "_".
You can simply rename the offline folder to the proper steam/Klei player ID. Then start the server.
To find your Steam/Klei ID make a new (online) world and be the only player. Or look at an old save game of an online world. It may be a challenge if the old world had multiple players as there will be multiple unique directories assigned to each player.
e.g. change folder name:
save/session/58B3EDF2F8A7C241/A7HVR11VAFKP
save/session/58B3EDF2F8A7C241/KU_aBcDeXyZ_
