I used mods like Geometric placement and less placement blocking (Mostly to stop birds/items blocking way) to easily achieve this design.
In centre is the crafting and fire stations. with quick access to both a kitchen and storage.
Either end having both the actual farm and grass/twigs/berries and more if you choose to expand.
The Ice Flingo covers all crops and the lightning rod is able to cover entire area.
The grass and saplings were quickly placed so you could do a better job.

Prob more "compact" than simple, but compact is efficient in my own eyes since less travel.
Obviously not all is needed like the salt box, but ya know, building towards it so even having ice box in middle of crockpots is fine.
Prioritise your centre and build out.
