Thoughts on the New Crafting Menu
Curious to what others feel about the new crafting menu in Don't Starve Together?

I have played a few times after the update and I am finding the new crafting menu mechanics to be extremely non-intuitive and have struggled to complete basic tasks in a timely fashion. It feels like there are a number of additional steps and movement is all over the place (up down right left). The menu categories are extensive and I can appreciate needing to optimize the mechanics a bit, but this drastic shift just isn't working. The crafting icon sizes are way to small to easily navigate. I tried increasing their size, but nothing appeared to happen when adjusting the settings.

One plus, you can begin crafting an item if the sub components are not complete. I liked how it automatically crafts the sub-components and then the desired item.

All in all, the new menu system is SSSLLLLLLOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW and ruins the game. I can usually survive multiple years. I literally died trying to navigate the menu and craft a torch.

I hope Klei is monitoring for this type of feedback. Please don't touch the single player Don't Starve, as I would rather play the single player with a functioning menu mechanic than suffer through Don't Starve Together.

you basicaly forced to set every item in pins that you use regulary and items your craft ocasionaly in 2nd, 3rd, 4th pin tabs and etc.... It takes so much time to navigate and you may forget where did you put that item in your pins.
And when you need craft some less common item or specific crafting category like boat attachements, structures for base decoration or things for gardering - you have to open big menu and squeze your eyes, looking up for 30 sec.

It's very akward to use this new crafting menu. It really needs ability to put crafting tabs in pins.
Also make crafting menu don't take so much space from your screen and increase size of icons too.

I just came back in after a couple years of not playing and It barely even feels like the same game as Don't Starve anymore. This isn't a good thing. The interface is borked, farming doesn't work the way thought I remembered it working, and both hunger and durability just seem to tick away too quickly.

The crafting menu is only part if it, but yeah. Not happy with what they've turned DST into.

both crafting tabs have something good and some bad. The size of new crafting menu can be changed in the setting, I set it to be 7.
The new crafting menu is not very friendly when you are trying to make an armor or weapon while fighting... it blocks about 20-25% of the screen.

I think the reason that you don't like the new menu is because you don't know what items are there in each section.

I think the new crafting menu is more intuitive, finding all items in just one page. This is more relax than the old menu, fingers hurt after using the mouse wheel for a long time

I think it's okay. not bad at all.
All those scrolling down just for one walking cane is gone!
I suffered the same problem with you, but I got used to it and realized how intuitive the new sorting is. So try switching the settings to pause when crafting

it's very good, you just have to learn to use it, quick crafts are very versitale

It's one way to deal with it, but it's not supposed to be fans who should fix crafting interface. And one can't tell if mod will be supported by author forever or it wont break in feature updates

One of the reasons that I stopped playing a couple of years ago was the old crafting UI. New one is way better now. And I mean, you can favorite your most used crafts and just switch the UI to only show favorite crafts.

I like pinned crafts better cause I can press (,) and (.) to switch between pinned tabs. As you get used to what you need the most and how pinned tabs work, you won't be using the whole craft UI that much.

I love it. It feels so much better. I could never go back to the old one.

Search function and customizable pinned tabs is what sells it for me.

well personally i think you can craft way faster with this one, since you can find everything instantly

I initially hated the new menu. I found it unintuitive and slow. I love the menu now. I think I had the old one ingrained in like a muscle memory so that it made the new one feel bad, but after using it for a bit I can very quickly navigate the menu and I love the favorites bars.
I used to hate it, but after they decreased the window size, moved it over and made it smoother to use, it's not so bad now. The only complaint I have is a lot of the things are reorganized and I hate having to constantly click through new tabs to find something that was previously in the science tab or structures tab.

Some of these new organizations are good, like the tabs specifically for winter clothes, etc. But others, I dunno, I just end up going "screw it" and type the name because I can't find it in the tab it used to be in, or any of the others.

It's probably just a "getting used to it" issue, but for me it's just a lot more tedious to find things. I wish they'd kept all the items in the same tabs they used to be in before the update.

Other than the placement of certain items and the fact that is not as keyboard friendly as the old one, honestly I do like it. the fact that you can put craftables in favorite tabs, and that you can directly craft the materials needed to build something without needing to switch tabs sells it for me.

Size hasn't bothered me much really, but well, thats only me.

I started playing again a few days ago after a longer break. Initially I was irritated by the new menu. After some time ingame I started to like it. You can put the common stuff onto the crafting bars, so that you can craft them without clicking through any menu. If I want to craft something new, it's sometimes a little irritating to find the right tab, but on the other hand I also found some items that way that I might have overlooked otherways.

Besides that, you can still display all and then use the search bar in order to navigate to the item you want. Ofc, this most likely won't work while in combat, but if you really need someting here you haven't already placed onto a quickslot, there most likely something went wrong during the preperation.

The shortcut you can make is very useful. You can pause your game by pressing P so you have all your time for setting your shortcuts.
I spent 10 min setting them up and I barely open the crafting tab anymore.
I find the crafting menu better, but it isn't beginner friendly.
