Unless you are playing shipwrecked or hamlet there's no reason to play ds, the content from shipwrecked and hamlet feel more like standalone games they don't add to the default experience much.... If u will play the default experience Dst is a improved version of that.

I'm gonna completely disagree with the first reply and say that DS is far superior for strictly Solo play. The Shipwrecked and Hamlet dlc are both huge expansions that add many mechanics that just do not exist in DST, such as the shops of Hamlet, or the fun sailing of Shipwrecked. There is also the poison mechanic that only exists in DS, and the DS only characters. Sailing does exist in DST, but it's really slow, and for me not that enjoyable since it is so different from the sailing in Shipwrecked. Of course the biggest thing to be aware of is the health difference of the enemies in DS compared with DST. Enemies in DST have health that takes in mind having multiple characters working together to take them down, while in DS, it is balanced for Solo play. However, you could play both DS, and DST as I do. I play DS or DST depending on the mood. When I am playing DST alone, I use a mod to adjust enemy health levels similar to what they are in DS. So keep in mind that as an option as well.

When it comes to the base game, which is basically RoG, DS is far inferior to DST.

And like you yourself mentioned, if Boss HP is an issue, you can lower it with a mod.

Only real things DS has going for it, are SW and HL

Could also point out how several characters have been improved from their DS version, and pretty sure all of the DS only characters can be added with Mods as well to DST.
