Combine this with the fact that DST is a game as service, meaning it requires constant internet connection and data collection to run is a reason why I and many others stopped playing the game and supporting Klei in the future.
as for data collection... well tencents connection with china is the worrying part.
everything collects data on you, youtube, amazon, ebay, netflix.
every single site on the internet records you going on it.
as for tencent's power over klei, yea klei has no say in anything anymore tencent owns klei now.
ps: in my country recently we had data leaks from millions of people from the government's own websites. I think a game is the least I have to worry about
Indeed you can ''play'' the game, but not as intended good luck playing with people if you don't agree to connect to their third party servers and have your data collected. Not to mention this way of doing multiplayer adds unneeded lag.
The moment the devs kill their servers you lose access to the following: DLC characters, skins and the main feature of the game, multiplayer. Now please explain me how is that not a game as a service?
That's a bald claim that every site collects data, but yes a lot of them do which still doesn't make it acceptable. You listing those sites also assumes that I use all of them, I don't.
Just because data collection is the norm nowadays it still shouldn't be acceptable, especially with a game which recently the devs of only seen to focus on skins mostly. There are many good alternatives out there.
I'm sorry your first sentence makes no sense, I'm also sorry that your government leaked your data, another reason why people should care about their privacy. Also I'd argue that yes even regarding games since at least personally for me I don't care about games that much to have my data collected, especially when this game has many good alternatives.
Not trying to make the argument of them being good or bad but just something I think people should know since if they do have concerns about this company they should also realise that they if they want to stop playing dst because of this tie the person may want to be aware of that they may have already have ties that prior too, they never would have even been aware of if the issue had not come up.
( Edit: Particularly discord since if one is a gamer there is a decent chance of that )
You actually bring up a good point, I don't use Reddit for similar reasons I don't play this game anymore. About discord, when it first launched it was pretty good but in my opinion the moment they started glueing more and more social features it got worse and worse I stopped using it. I heard Microsoft wants to buy it, and as we know Microsoft bought Skype too long ago and they ruined it I reckon they will do the same with discord if they end up acquiring it, but at least it will come pre-bundled with windows 10 along side candy crush. I personally couldn't care less, Mumble and team speak were and will always be superior to discord.
That's the biggest problem though, you do recognize that there are issues in the world yet you decide to not do anything about it just like many others.
Besides, how does the fact that the whole world is messed up correlate to the fact that this is just a game which gives you a false sense of accomplishment have to do anything with global scale problems?
