Don't Starve Together

is the oasis a good spot for a base?
I've heard that structures in the oasis never smolder during summer, but other than that is it a good spot for a base?
Edit: should I make a base somewhere else and then build a base in the oasis in summer?

Yeah, my oasis generated in a pretty odd spot.

I wouldn't base at oasis. Most of the time it is too far away from other points of interest, walking distance is way too far. If you want a safe space during summer you can go into the caves aswell, temperature problem solved aswell. To counter the sanityloss you can equip a Tam'O or munch Green Caps occasionally. Sleeping helps aswell.
But moving to the Oasis just because of the wildfires? Nah.

You move to oasis for Cactus, Wilfire and antlion gifts primarliy. Oasis is a very good place to base,

Just turn off wildfires, they become an annoyance late game for base building and most of the time the oasis is located very far from anything useful

I kinda agree with you actually. Wildfire is not a problem for your base though, wildifre is a problem for other things you want to protect, such as a berry far by the pigs or something. Running around on the world exploring and everything can burn up and you can loose limited resources is just not fun mechanics.

Oasis has some small benefits as a base location but there are lots of things to consider when choosing a base location and there's no specific biome that's the best place. What non-relocatable things do you want access too and how frequently? I'd pick a location that makes the travel times to these locations as short as possible.

Oasis Lake - After you've got the blueprints, there isn't much reason to fish here unless you've got Winters Feast on and are after Festive Lights.
Cactus - A good sanity restoring food that can't be relocated. It's also a vegetable which doesn't require farms. Nice to have but there are other options available.
Antlion - You'll probably interact with Antlion most summers, so having it on your doorstep is a time saver, but it's only a benefit once or twice a year.
Volt Goats - Could be useful to have them early game as Warly and they're not the easiest thing to relocate so it's unlikely to be a priority for a while if you base elsewhere.
Wildfire Protection - I think the caves are a better option for summer. You won't be restricted to a single biome (or risk burning your world) and don't need to deal with overheating.

If you intend to challenge yourself to have a standard experience and explore all the game's content i would highly recommend a base at oasis or move there during the summer to fish the bp's and fight the Antlion. The cave is also a good place to spend the summer after killing the Antlion (or you can have a surprise down there). However, if you want to change the world settings to suit your preference then any place will be ideal for a base.

No, it's just a dumb new meta base with multiple flaws:
1) Far away from everything else
2) annoying desert storms, even if you do have desert googles. They take up your hat slot
3) You need to craft desert googles for everyone
4) you need to waste who knows much time fishing in oasis
5) Hounds, Red hounds become huge problem, making oasis a trap you made for yourself
6) poor and annoying sand storm visibility if you're not near oasis pond
7) annoying sand storm winds siunds
8) Oasis is pretty empty on plant and animal live
9) I hate sand

Megabase at surface and a base at cave for summer will solve all ir problem. Not a gpod time to be on surface during summer actually.

Oasis is the IDEAL place for camping. Other options exist, but by far it is the best.

1) not always, sometimes the oasis can be very close to the portal or have super useful wormholes.
2) it's okay to occupy the helm slot as long as you can equip your body with armor or summer outfits if necessary. Tbh, the storm is a gift in the summer because it is precisely that which prevents the outbreaks of fire.
3) No problem if you have a pig farm and know how to trade gold with the pig king. Its all you need.
4) Like many other things in the game it depends on a percentage of chance. This can really be annoying but just if you are on a very, very unlucky day.
5) fire hounds are a problem anywhere, so it’s always good to have a trap at a safe distance from your base
6) Desert google solves it
7) same as above
8) You can find goats and during the summer you can find cacti with flowers that count as vegetables and serve for beautiful salads that Pearl will love
9) it is even worse inside the swimming trunks. :steamhappy:

If they attack at night you can't use Miners hat because you need desert googles. You can't have a weapon because you need lantern and desert googles. You may not have decent trap before you finish it. They can caught in bad time and you were in middle of desert at night or too far away from trap. The desert will work against when you in critical, unforseen situations.
Or situation where you lost desert googles and you need to go back to oasis base. You're screwed if hounds wave attack while you slowly dragging yourself to oasis. This is how I died because I couldn't run away or dodge.

Also Desert doesn't fix sand storm winds problem. It only muffles the sounds.
When you at oasis at summer, you basicaly always have to wear it because if you move just 2-3 titles from pound - you get annoying sounds, sand storm vision penalty, speed penalty. You can't use eyebrela or sanity regen hats at same time with out dealing with out these annoying issues.

And the bigger the base at oasis - worse it gets dealing with these issues during summer
