Don't Starve Together

For the life of me I don't know how this is fun...
There must be something I am missing. I am not able to understand this game. Nothing is fun. I just keep dying and loosing all progress. It that just how it is?

If you want to learn, or just casually enjoy the game, set that to endless. That gamemode is exactly the same as survival, except when you die you turn into a ghost, and you can go back to spawn, "haunt" the gate, and come back to life. You can do this infinitely. You will have less max HP each time, but you CAN get ot back by crafting and using a "booster shot", which isn't that hard to make. Also when you die your items drop, so if they didn't burn or something you can get them back.

I can go on without dieing for a good while, but i still like to play on this mode.

Also, if you lose your base, there's a thing called rollback, where you can go back a day (or more) in time. I think it exists because of griefers, but it's a perfect tool if you don't like losing your progress.

Well anyway, everyone enjoys the game for different reasons. I personally love some of the character mechanics. If you're like me, I recommend reading the wiki about the characters and trying each one out. My favourites are Wendy (I like having a ghost friend that kills spooders for me), Wigfrid (#TankLife), Woody (you can turn into a goose and run around the map at a crazy speed), and Webber for late game (pretty bad for early game tho, his spiders cause more harm than help). Use a character that you find fun. Don't plat Wilson unless you REALLY like his beard, he doesn't have any fun mechanics.

Also just use the wiki a lot, maybe some youtube guides if you're really stuck. The Beard 777 talks like he's talking to children which is pretty annoying, but he does have the best guides out there for beginners, he explains pretty much everything.

Sounds like survival games aren't your cup of tea.

Are you playing with others or by yourself? Enemy health and game difficulty isn't scaled with the amount of players ingame, while you CAN overcome all the challanges the game throws your way alone the game isn't balanced for an average player to tackle it all alone.

An awesome reference guide for seasons/recipes/crafting/and MUCH MUCH more (though the garden farm is no longer applicable after the Reap What You Sow" update):

I hate it when people can't play the game it just ruins the beautiful game because of the lack of knowledge and so once they put in that work it doesn't have as much magic to it I feel bad so I'll recommend jazzy game's tutorial on living throughout the fall and any specific things beard 777 can too help just remember to develop your own way to play and take tips and notes as some can just go to a late game area on day 2 just fine while others don't touch those areas. don't starve together is a game of mystery and wonder to delve into with friends so I hope you find new light in this game.

Yeah, I don't know, this game is just not clicking with me I guess. I just don't understand the mechanics or the loop or whatever. It's not a hard game. I am not dying because of the challenge. I am dying from dumb things like not having a touch just one time and that's it the game is over and everything is lost. I don't enjoy that, especially since all I had been doing for the past several hours was just grinding to try and figure out where the fun was. I mean, pick grass, build fire , cook food over and over and over for hours... and then loose all progress. I have 600+ hours in Dark Souls and dying 1000 times is a drug. This, is just pointless. nothing makes me want to start all over again. This game has an overwhelmingly positive review. I must be doing something wrong.

jepp survival games are - die - repeat learn something - die again - repeat <.<

hello kitty online should be nice too - i heard
wow people.
some of you are literally talking out of their a**.

yes the game is grindy as in you spend easily the first 2 days just picking spawn clean of grass and twigs and some flint. you wanna keep a stack of both on you at all times. same for flint and possibly logs too if you just want to make a campfire whenever.
don't make one every night. make torches instead and keep exploring the world. unless you have food to cook or you need a larger range of light for night combat, there is no need to make one every night.

butterflywings are the best early game food source because they heal you for 8 hp! just move close to them and hit ctrl + f to attack nearest passive creature.

if you have your grass and twigs, a stack of logs or more and found some boulders to mine. get to crafting science machine tier items!
whatever you crafted on the station will be unlocked for you to craft whenever you want without needing to be near the science machine again.

new players think they shouldn't get to building structures yet because they haven't found the ideal location yet etc. this is very much a noob trap.
go ahead and unlock better items asap. you want:
a backpack for 8 more inventory slots.
a spear as a better weapon.
a log suit as armor if you find yourself in combat.
a shovel to dig up logs, graves(watch sanity) and to relocate berry bushes, twigs, grass.
maybe a top hat if you have the 6 silk, but you don't have to have it that urgently.

prototype some structures for future base building. cancel the placement ui with right click and you'll notice that the item in now light blue in the crafting tab. by doing this you spent the resources up front and don't need to carry them with you anymore. this saves you inventory space or lets you fill up your stack of rocks and gold for the future. prototype the following things:
a lightning rod.
a alchemy machine
maybe a think tank. can be ignored for now though.

you could also put down the alchemy machine and use it just like the science machine and get more advanced things like:
football helmet
hambat
lantern
miners hat
gold tools (not recommended unless you go for several stacks of 1 resource).
ice box
bird cage

remember to have a second alchemy ready for placement for your actual base in the future.

then we have the whole preparing food later on in a crockpot. obviously newcomer don't know how to use it and what the different food types and values are in order to cook food.

if you can use a crockpot you pretty much eliminated the food problem, as you use a few ingrediences to make something that either benefits you by feeding you more than what you invested to cook the dish or you can make food recipes which benefit mainly health or sanity.
you still need to gather the food of course, if you know how to get certain food types and what to cook out of them you can manage all 3 stats (hunger, health, sanity) very easily.

so there is a lot to learn that newcomers simply can't know from the get go.

so the usual "survival games are not for you then" just isn't helpful and just makes you look like a ignorant dumb person.

Don't Starve Together is one of those games that just requires alot of learning. Playing with others (many public servers are just fine) does help quite a bit; it is a co-op oriented game after all.

It's very difficult and complex at the start.
Like you started ARK the first time, but id doesn't end to be difficult like it does it ark^^

Guides will help. I prefered the non guide methode and for me the 4 most important things are:
• Learn the stats, e.g. how long can you resist the cold/heat/rain.
• Learn to cook. Don't eat everything you find, try to combine as much as possible to find the best recipes.
• Build everything you don't know and try it.
• Use the rollback function. If you die there is no need to start all over again, there is an auto-save at every start of the day. You have the option to revert your game back to the last 5 days.

Yeah. I just figured out "Endless" mode and "Rollback" last night. That was all I needed to allow me enough progress to figure out the game mechanics. Thanks to all who didn't just come back with smart a$s remarks.
