Don't Starve Together

There is a reason to play DS or is better to play DST?
May be DS has a good plot, without which you can't play DST, or unique mechanics that are not in DST, or interesting dlc? (i am newbie and play solo, so i don't need coop from DST)

I picked DST sense you can bypass all the dlc in it by playing long enough which I liked. I also got it for the co-op though and honestly never got DS because I heard that you couldn`t play certain charaters unless you paid for DLC but that`s just what I heard. If you don`t care for story but want a survival game then DST will wok just fine for you.

Go with DST; Can be played solo too.

The singlerplayer-only game is not up to date.

Both games can be played Solo.
There are even mods that will modify boss healthbars to make it more like single player so you don't need to worry about trying to fight a boss made for like multiple people fighting it.
(More ideal for newbies, a more experienced user can still do it with the health increase.)
Note that this also includes general mobs like Spiders, Beefalo and such, although those are minor in comparison to the bosses.

Single player Don't Starve offers something a lot more different than DST.
That being it's DLCs (excluding Reign of giants since I think that's mandatory.)
Ship wrecked and Hamlet.
Both are unique in their own ways, granted there is now a sailing mechanic in DST, but it doesn't compare to the experience from Shipwrecked.
And Hamlet focuses on a more unique take in which you both have to survive, but also are able to earn currency for your work to buy or sell stuff with 'pigs'.
I'd advice you to maybe look up some walkthroughs or playthroughs of Don't Starve's Hamlet and Shipwrecked DLCs.

The plot from Don't Starve carries over to Don't Starve Together, although so far as I'm concerned the two DLCs aren't part of the canon. The updates of Don't Starve Together themselves have also been the lore itself expanding, including when the game was in beta and changes like the portal.

In short, DS alone (No DLCs) isn't worth it in comparision to DST, but with Ship Wrecked and Hamlet, it offers a more unique experience that is not in DST without mods.
It's worth noting that DS is a lot more different than DST, most notably the character reworks.

Personally, DST is better than DS, but DS offers different and more unique mechanics that aren't in DST. And I enjoy both equally.

Technically true.
You cannot play someone like Wheeler if you do not own the Hamlet DLC.
Otherwise Characters are unlocked via an XP system in Don't Starve, longer you survive the more XP you get, does not matter what you do though.
And some can only be unlocked via certain actions like saving Woodlegs in Shipwrecked by using keys, which requires the DLC to even find him since he generates in Shipwreck only.

Otherwise, all base characters like Wolfgang, Wickerbottom and Willow are in the game, just need the XP to unlock. (Or specific actions for ones like Webber and Wes.)

However if you have them unlocked, you CAN play Wheeler on Shipwrecked once you unlock her and if you have the DLC (aka both of them.)

They're almost entirely different games now. I'd recommend DS if you're planning on playing solo. Everything is balanced around a singleplayer experience, and bosses aren't massive damage sponges. The different characters in DS play well despite being "not up to date."
Their powers are much stronger in DS than in DST.

You could probably tweak the world settings in DST to get a similarly challenging experience, but playing solo in default DST starts out extremely easy due to a massive overabundance of resources and becomes more and more brutal when bosses and monster attacks scaled to multiplayer start showing up.

DS is pretty much only carried by adventure mode and the dlcs, while dst expanded upon pretty much every feature (bosses, caves, ocean, farming, characters etc)
Don't Starve is way better for singleplayer.

DS is better than DST when it comes to single player as the game is balanced around that, however, DST is a better buy in the long run, go with your gut really, if anything it's worth getting both.

Singleplayer DS is playable without internet and you can even take quick break with push of button. Source: https://www.gog.com/game/dont_starve_alone_pack_plus

DST u can't take a break real time running, when you go afk you starve or die to hound attack and it is not balanced towards 1 player on server. DST is more social app with sims like clothing choices ... 3 payed (Wurt, Wortox, Wormwood) characters are exclusive to online play and CAN'T be played offline or in lan mode

If you are loner totally go for classic Don't starve + DLC. The 3 DLC triple the content basically and DST would pale then. Each DLC gives new characters exclusive to singleplayer as well. You can only play Wilba, Woodlegs , Walani, Wagstaff and alot more there.
When you get hamlet you can unlock Wormwood though and he works offline there.
DS + Shipwrecked + Hamlet is 100% offline, 100% soloable ( bosses have fair hp / damage ) and at any time possible to take breaks.

pack works in Win, Mac & Linux
also works with GoG Galaxy

With the alone pack you get ALL 100% singleplayer content with one purchase and triple the content compared to DST
