Don't Starve Together

Don't Starve Together

bored of dying
my son and i have played this for 30 hours + each and never made it past day 12. Im just so pi**ed off with getting killed. All we ever do is harvest a load of crap for a later game that we will never get to. we have watched a lot of you tube about the game, but its just so damn slow to get anything of worth, and when we do, someone will die, starvation, darkness, random mob, wolves, random monster that was agroed and wont give up. Getting health back just seems impossible at the start of the game, when each monster is doing 30+ damage per hit but we heal like maybe 10 hp per day....
Im about ready to uninstall this game now, and I can honestly say, it was very boring game, collect S**T.. die, rinse and repeat.

or how about you actualy learn from your mistakes and dont cry like that please monsters are after you? run away if you just keep runing most of them wont get to you need to actualy kill stuff? make weapons and armor and try to hit and run so the enemy will attack the air no food at all? try replantin berrybush near your base and alsol use the crockpot and try all sorts of differend combinations need health? some of the crockpot foods are good for healing and if that is not a option make some healing salvs darkness? just make a light just need some grass and sticks for a torch that will keep the darkness away and if something is too hard for you? you can just use some world generations option to remove some of the things that is good for begginer to learn something step by step and ad some point re ad some of the things you disapled
so please dont insult the game for not learning i gave even good tips

I believe it might be faster to collect less and just get used to the mechanics, once you understand how mob aggro works you will rarely have things chase you for very long. Just find where meat is and place a campfire, once you can survive on meat and fire then comes health.

To get health punch those butterflies and you will heal 80 for every 10 butterflies (8 per butterfly)

Afterward comes insanity which is what many people generally began to struggle with and once you've mastered insanity you will have very little issue with the rest.

But first come just surviving on your food source until winter.

My main advice is to use armor. A grass suit does way better than nothing. You can reliably tank a Clockwork Bishop by yourself with an axe and one of those things.

Having suffered the same as you, I can tell simple tips that keep you alive and make beginning 10000% easier:

1) Use keyboard too, not only mouse. Press F button down when enemies are near, then you automaticly attack enemies near you and you dont missclick all over the place as you do with mouse. Also use spacebar to collect items like 50% faster than by mouse clicking.

2) Craft log armor. ALWAYS wear log armor. It gives you 80% shield against damage. Having a spear, log armor and using f key to fight, suddenly you can easily kill pigs, spider groups, etc that seemed impossible before.

3) You can catch spiders with traps...those simple traps. Make 3-5 of those, put them near spider nest. Go annoy the spiders, attack one of them, and let all the spiders get into traps. Infinite source of monster meat and healing glands.

4) Make crot pot for food asap. Using the spider meat you got from tip 3 and some random berries (and ice during winter!) you make meatballs, that are only food you need to "not starve" ever again. When you learn how to make this fast, you can start using the viking girl character that only eats meat -she is extremely strong as she heals herself automaticly when she fights, so she will lose hp only against big enemies really, and can heal herself by attacking spiders etc.

5) With the spiders, you also get silk. With silk, you can make tent, that heals you fully both in HP and in brain.

With these you "only" need to worry about seasonal hazards and bosses etc, but really learning those changed the game completely for me from impossible dying festival to casual fun game.

LMAO this game is actually really easy you just have to learn 3 things
-Armour in this game is OP just make butt ton of football helm
-Learn crock pot recipes pierogi and honey ham restores 40 or 30 hp each and you can make 10+ of them very easily
-Learn kiting
Wechciu Aug 3, 2020 @ 10:34am
learn kitting get patient and youre done

sleeping is very good for regenerating health and sanity. the grass bedrolls are pretty cheap, but they are not reusable. build a tent if you like the idea of reusable beds
dudex Aug 4, 2020 @ 6:39am
why u fighting monsters in the beginning of the game... u should be exploring not fighting

anyways eat flowers if u do get hit in first days. picking flowers and eating them gives u 5 sanity and 1 hp.

DS is a pretty difficult game to learn when you first start but has the potential to become one of your favs if you give it the time , for about the first 100hrs i was a total noob , constantly dying and wondering how much new stuff ill have to learn every game lol

After a while i learned how the world works , figured what im good at and now its just a pleasure to play , almost relaxing , almost lol
DuncanPerham Aug 4, 2020 @ 11:22am
i downloaded some pdfs with croc pot recipes, and downloaded a list of what costs what to build. The sort of stuff you used to get with game manuals in the olden days....

Seems im not actually missing that much, we have learned to heal a bit better, and are doing a bit better now.
I was once in your shoes, so I'll offer some advice I wish I had when I was getting started:

1) Spend most of Autumn exploring the map. When you first spawn in, the first thing you should do is look around for basic resources. Collect grass, twigs, rocks, flint, etc. Whenever you find berries, carrots, or any regular surface foods, pick them up. Go around the edge of the map to explore the basic areas, this way you know where everything is. Eat the food you collect along the way to prevent hunger.

2) Whenever you want to kill something, please, please, PLEASE. Google how to kite it. There are some really easy and good videos online from people like Edgy Rick and Glermz on how to kite every enemy in the game. IN REGARDS TO TIP #1, if you find that youre starting to starve and you see mobs like Beefalo nearby, quit the world, (so time doesnt tick on while youre googling), google how to fight it, join back, and then fight. Beefalo, pigs, spiders, and whatnot are VERY good sources of food.

3) Hounds are pretty easy to fight. The spawn around day 6, but when you start a new world you can change the settings so they attack you less. You can hear their growlings and your character will say something, unless you're playing as Wes. (But if youre having struggles with the game, DO NOT PLAY WES). If you don't want to fight the hounds, time them so that they attack when youre near other mobs. An easy way to kill them is to bring them to the pig village, a beefalo herd, tentacle army, or even Killer Bee hives. Make sure to pick up their meat, as they'll come inhandy for my next tip.

4) Crockpot is very underrated for new players.Judging by the way you talk about starving to death, I have a feeling that whenever you get meat or berries, you cook them and eat them. That is a terrible idea. Crockpots are somewhat inexpensive. If you're having trouble finding food, what you should do is make a crockpot and download a mod from the Steam Workshop that shows you what you'll make based on the ingredients you put in before you cook it. The most effective way to use your meat is to put it into a crockpot and make it into meatballs.
Meatballs are the most inexpensive food that has high payoff. All you need is 1 meat and 3 fillers that isnt a stick. What I suggest is you take monster meat either from the hound attacks or spiders you fight, and put in either berries, ice, butterfly wings, or even cooked birchnuts to make meatballs, which give you meatballs which is 62.5 hunger. So what went from useless monster meat and some bad ice, you turned into 62 hunger.

5) Turn everything into a win-win situation. Try to find the positive in every situation. I read you were having problems with deerclops, so I'll lead you through that. Deerclops is quite easy to kill and is even easier to farm nightmare fuel from. While I can see why you want to kill him asap so that he doesn't ruin your stuff and kill you via insanity, instead, use it to your advantage. With Deerclops' insanity aura, its easy for you to go insane quickly. What I suggest is you let it happen. Whenever you see nightmare shadows starting to aggro onto you, run away from deerclops, and fight the shadows. Google how to kite shadows, and you can get nightmare fuel from them. With nightmare fuel, you can make the Dark Sword, which is one of the most powerful weapons in the game. As for fighting deerclops himself, youtube how to kite him, and do what the video says. You'll get the hang of it.

I hope this helped man, feel free to reply or add me if you have any indepth questions :). It wasn't too long ago I was in your place.

Think of it from his perspective. Surely you were once in his place, no? This game doesn't give any type of tutorial, no information at all. While yes, the store page does say its an uncompromising game, he was thrown at the mercy of online guides which are almost as unbegginer friendly as the game is. Chances are he was kicked from public servers the second he joined because you're expected to hold your own in public games. He's clearly frustrated man, give him some breathing room.
Also, no matter what anyone says, NEVER pick flowers. It's a bad idea. If you need the sanity you'll gain from them, find a desert and pick the cacti. If you cook the cactus, a single cactus will give you 15 sanity, and its renewable, and it grows during winter, unlike berries. It also counts as a veggie for certain meals.

When you pick flowers, youre removing a source of filler, (butterfly wings), which you can use for meatballs. Never pick flowers.

tis is why so new many players constantly die. they worry about 100 days down the line instead of surviving now. if u need sanity and health get those flowers. teliing new players not to pick flowers will lead to many deaths

following a veterans guide to survival will just lead to death. bc they worry about optimizing since survival isnt an issue.

do watever u need to survive until u can do it comfortably. after tat then u worry about optimizing.
