Why bother fighting the Crab King?
This boss has to be one of the least worthwhile to fight in the game, the only competition being Toadstool's forms unless you like lamps(?). The Crab King drops a weapon that while on water, has the power of a dark sword, with 50 more uses, and on land, as about the same worth as a fork being used to eat soup. Sure the damage might be intriguing, but why would you kill a boss with a minimum 20000 health, as apposed to just eating some mushrooms and killing a few trees? Sure there is some spell thing that can catch fish, but the geysers or waves or whatever it spawns can hurt your own boat. The music shells are cute and all but not worth fighting this super boss for. You also get another lunar altar, yay! It's not like the game already spawns with one on the island. You can't even bring this to the mainland, it's literally just a 2nd altar, which by the way, you can still move the 1st altar to wherever you want. And that's just the drops, not even the fight itself. The fight changes based on gems you put in, which I guess lets you pick your own fight, but why spend resources on some crab when you could instead spend them on pretty much any other boss? Plus, you also need, like, a backpack or 2 full of boats, since the boss will destroy the first boat you put down. I guess this just brings my thoughts back to why all this ocean stuff even happened. It really just seems like they added an ocean so the people who wanted shipwrecked together would get their wish. Don't get me wrong I'm glad they added the ocean, I've had plenty of fun times exploring the seas with random people, but all these updates just feel kinda pointless. The only reason I could see someone having for going to the lunar island is the glass cutter and maybe the axe if you really hate trees. Anyways thanks for reading my rant I really just don't see the worth in fighting this boss.

Why bother fighting any boss? I played the game for 2500 hours and killed less than 4 bosses the whole time! I can just build a mega base and relax or mess around without having to fight any of them.

So the answer is, because someone needs to feel good about themselves, so they go fight bosses or make challenges of that sort.

most dst raid bosses have really good drops, some examples include:
scaled furnace from dragonfly
jellybeans, bundling wrap, and the bee queen crown from the bee queen
a 10% chance for a krampus sack, life giving amulets, and other boss drops from klaus
bone armor, bone helmet, and the shadow thurible from ancient fuelweaver (+ a free dark sword and night armor)
a variety of ruins items from the ancient guardian
meanwhile crab king over here drops a trident which at most can be tied for damage with a dark sword or glass cutter, not to mention it's basically a glorified spear on land, a crafting station that you've probably already built, some shell bells which are purely cosmetic, and a broken peal with it's one use being dialogue

the boss serves no purpose, and is way too hard for the items you get, its kinda like toadstool, but at least with toad you lanterns which at least do something, and no, the trident summoning geysers does not make it worth it, if you really want to fish, just use a fishing rod, and even then fish suck for food sources. oh, and it can stunlock you, with next to no way to get out of it. any boss that can stunlock you as one of its default attacks is already terrible, if you ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up and made a mistake, that punishment is more warranted, but just because you tried to fight the boss? nah, never fighting this thing until it gets changed, otherwise im just gonna kill it with supergodmode should it become mandatory for new updates, and id consider that a waste of time too
Crab king is just ocean challenge. Since malbatross is a chicken you only have a crab king to test your "sailing skills". Crab king is the ocean version of toadstool. Fully optional boss challenge.

Raid bosses were always about tinkering / challenge and making working arenas for them. For example i'm pretty sure alot of builder / architects enjoyed make automatic farms for toadstool farming. With the permanent freeze or bombard canons etc.

I just hope Klei adds more raid bosses with fun multiplayer mechanics, for example a lunar boss for lunar island or lunar caves.

Now finally we need the ancient fuelwaver equivalent for ocean or lunar content :D :dshound:
^_^
testing sailing skills would be fine if there was any reason to actually sail during the fight, half the time its just easier to put a new boat down since boat acceleration and speed is god awful
