Discussion for anyone who needs help with Wortox
Title speaks for itself. I've seen a lot of people struggling with Wortox, (some people even saying hes garbage, or impossible to survive winter with) and i figured I, as well as other DST community members may be able to offer some insight on the character. One tip id really like to offer right off the bat would be not to force yourself into eating only souls. The 1/2 hunger you gain might seem really intimidating, but Wolfgang normally sits at a doubled hunger rate which essentially makes the same hunger ratio that Wortox has! (Wolfgang also goes up to a tripled hunger rate when near full hunger) So TLDR, don't be afraid to eat food other than souls. I'm happy to answer any other questions anyone might have, and if i provide some misinformation feel free to correct me

Might as well add some stuff here.

He can heal others by dropping souls onto the ground, which also have a aoe effect.

Teleport can be helpful getting away from enemies or going across ledges and it's the only use i can find with his teleport.

His food effects decreased by half also decreases stuff like sanity and health you can gain or lose as well.

teleport is good to ambush mobs like Walrus that run away, or to kite away from mobs. Also Wotox only takes 1/2 damage from food so eating cooked or dried monster meat is a good way to go. Also various other foods that damage can be eating easily.

Wortox also only receives half health for any foods so for your typical dragon pies an such it's best to use his souls and or any other healing items that isn't food otherwise it's a waste(This could be personally me since I do play multiplayer a lot but everyone has their own thoughts on this one)

Actually with wortox waffles make sense now. I always felt they healed too much - sic! - and were waste regardless. But since 50% it is perfect bite size :D

And farming butter or butterflies is super fun as wortox since endless souls anyway.
-> win win

Waffles are the new pierogi for wortox <3
30 / 19 / 2

And mandrake soup are the new honey hams for wortox
50 / 75 / 2
-> endgame server

he still gets the same hunger to damage ratio from food that hurts him so it’s really not that big of an advantage. The only time that would really be useful is if he’s at 0 hunger and 4 hp when he has food nearby he can’t quite get to. However if you don’t mind having low sanity, eating monster meats health loss can be counteracted by the healing from souls. That being said, eating a soul gives more hunger, and less sanity drain than monster meat (monster jerky on the other hand gives 1.25 less hunger and 1 less sanity drain than a soul)

I think wortox has bigger hunger drain. I see him always starving. Even with full hunger, after a day he.s starving, the hunger drain wasnt noticed in character perks and cons

another tip:
Wortox actually has invincibility frames when teleporting, so you can actually use it in place of dodging an attack when kiting. It's most notably effective against Deerclops, where instead of hitting him 3 times per dodge, you can hit him a whopping 7 times per dodge.

No it is just an illusion. Because he gets only 50% hunger value from any food eaten, he actually has to eat more. It feels like higher hunger drain, but in fact it is a different mechanic.
He just has to eat 50% more food than any other character IF you don't use 100% soul diet.

Example if wilson needs only 10 berry to eat to keep long exploring, in the same case wortox would need to eat 20 berry for the same hunger value. Or instead he eats souls, but then his insanity raises, for the same value he would need only 5 souls for dinner.

In that sense he is similar to wolfgang. Even though wolfgang can use 100% value of food, but then starves faster.

Just read his wiki page, might understand better:
