Don't Starve Together

Wortox is exactly what DST needed and I love it
So the fluffy boy has finally arrived and I'm absolutely digging him.
In the online setting of DST, that one guy that will heal a camp full of people and won't be fighting over a dosh of meatballs with 5 other Wolfgangs is an absolute godsend. He isn't exactly a perfect character for solo play, but he does fit any group in any composition almost perfectly.

I'm waiting for what the future holds for other new characters as well as the already existing ones. We have some great synergies between the characters already, but seeing a universally good addition in form of a nicely designed co-op toon is very much welcome.

And it will make my friend useful at anything combat related as despite playing DST for years even a pair of dogs murder him and his usual battle tactic resolves either in running around, screaming for help or using dragonfly armor and burning half of base to ash.

Honestly just because of Wortox I've started playing this game again, I love everything about him.

I might get him, how exactly does he play? I've always been garbage at fighting.

He is a lot about fighting, but killing anything gives you souls really. From butterflies to bees(stuff that dies in 1-2 hits) to spiders or pigs. He has halved hunger gain from food, so it's pretty advised to leave the food for your teammates and eat the soul instead. It gives, I think, 20 hunger for a -5 sanity loss which is pretty great. Souls can also be used to heal everyone around you for 20 hp by just dropping them at the ground. Just be sure to not hold more than 20 souls or something bad might happen.
Something that in my opinion also gets overlooked but is quite crucial for a good Wortox is the base placement. Decidous biome has pigs(2 monster meat = 1 meat 1 pigskin and a soul for wortox), raccoons, molerats and butterflies, which is perfect, but desert doesn't feel like that great of a choice unless you have two or three spider nests nearby. You're gonna be killing stuff constantly if not for your own benefit(sweet sweet teleports), then at least for your teammates'. It's worth learning at least the smaller monsters' kiting patterns(stunlock a spider, 1-2-1 with dogs, 6 hit beefalo/koalefant) if you wanna effectively play Wortox, especially handling packs of monsters(like a level 2 nest) and leave the big game to other people.

edit: and of course the shadow monsters(dodge-hold attack-repeat), since your sanity is going to eventually drop below that grace treshold.

+1 totally agree!

Wortox is like the webber we all finally deserved.
PS webber is still trash.

Why the comparison? Reasoning:

  • Webber was always a weaker healer, since glands only heal 8 / souls heal 20 and souls are AOE like a true medic!
  • Wortox has the teleport mobility, which means he can ninja heal fellow players in danger, even further supporting his medical role! Webber has no mobility and is super slow :c
  • Wortox and webber are both considered monsters and chased by pigs and bunnymen -> good balancing
  • But wortox souls don't eat away through your meat stock, unlike the useless spiders of webber
  • Wortox has to actually hunt for food, since his 50% food effectiveness. Unlike webber who was always boring afk sitting at base and eating stacks of 20 monster meat for no reason
  • Spider queens were always useless and bad controllable by webber. And the spider hat works for any character rendering webber even more useless ...

Bottomline for all the webber mains i hope they get a good rework addition, but overall webber is a bad design by heart and even a rework can't really save him. There are simply many other characters, who are superior to him. Woodie / Maxwell and even Wilbur are better minion spawner. Wortox is better party healer. Wickerbottom is better party food grinder. Wilson / max and Woodie are better magic grinder etc etc

sry for offtopic let's get back to Wortox:

  • I like that you can't endless grind over 20 souls, they have hard cap and you can't put them into a chest ( unlike webber useless 4986586 silk and gland chests )
  • I like that you actually need to hunt for food, since even only meaty stew gives 75 hunger, so the "dont starve" aspect is not easy af as wortox
  • I like that eating souls hurt his sanity, meaning he is a great shadowhunter like max or woodie are!
  • I like all his skins, even his default skin looks cute and exciting.
  • 2700 spools is a very fair price to weave him and even casuals can get those in less than 1 month with regular present drops
  • Only sad point is that he is not a great fighter. At least with my tinkering i didn't find a way to buff weapons or damage with souls. Would be cool to even give a + 0.25% damage multiplier
  • Overall i really think he is a well rounded character and good NON redundant addition to the cast. Let's hope classic chars get great reworks too!
  • Very good downside: Shadows don't give souls. Meaning woodie and maxwell are still nightmare fuel grinder kings!

Nope this is wrong. 4 monster meat is 1 werepig aka 2 meat 1 pig skin.
Don't spread misinformation. Thanks!

Eh? Webber is good Redhead, it's more like you never really saw a good one or didn't took all of the stuff he can do with the spiders and their drops, he's not THAT one-dimensional, although I agree with spider gland, bee farm is superiour in that regard.
Wortox is your wingman for fights and exploration, needs to be constantly fighting but that's easy to solve with werepigs and bees, benefits from bee farm, can teleport between biomes and get usefull items, like Wigfrid, he can get away with not being starved by just camping close to the hounds at dragonfly's desert, birdcage makes him an even easier time with farming gold compared to others.
And one surprise, bringing alive creatures like rabbits or bees will help you to not overstack or banking a few souls, if you got stacking mod it becomes OP.
