Deerclops - how can I avoid or fight them?

Is it possible to avoid them without having them destroy my base? What is the best way to kill them?

Best way to avoid him, jump through a wormhole that isn't leading you to your base, let him spawn and then jump back through. Problem is everyone will have to do this.

Best way to kill him
1. Hit him twice dodge repeat
2. Place campfire and tank him (Doesn't work during winters feast)

Its very easy once you have experience

Once you hear the growls, get a weapon. hambat and tentacle spikes are recommended, but you can use a spear if thats your only option. get a wood armor and a football helmet. if you are playing with wigfrid, a battle helmet, battle spear, and a wood armor is recommended.

After that, run away from your base. it doesnt have to be super far, just make sure its atleast 1 screen away from base. Once the deerclops spawns, there are currently 7 different aways to kill it


1. Tanking
you can try to tanking the deerclops. you must have a healing item if you decide to tank it (unless of you have a good armor, playing as wolfgang/wigfrid, or have teammates). This is the fastest and easiest way to kill deerclops

2. Kiting
Hit the deerclops 3 times and run. After he attacked, come back and repeat the whole process.
This process is super long and causes a lot of sanity drain, but super useful when you have little to no armor/healing items. if done correctly, you can kill the deerclops with 0 health lost

3. Forest
Lure the deerclops to a forest and use him as a lumberjack slave. Use him to chop as many trees as possible and when a treeguard spawns, you can grab a popcorn and watch the deerclops and the treeguard fight. If the treeguard dies before the deerclops dies, you can either finish him off with a few attacks, or continue using him as a lumberjack slave till a treeguard kills him. Note that this method works better with bearger, but still works on deerclops

4. Swamp
Lead the deerclops to the swamp biome and let the henta- i mean the tentacles kill him. Be careful though since this method can be dangerous, but useful when you have little to no preparations.

5. Peagulls
Peaguls are extremely powerful. Lead the deerclops to a few peagull herds and let them to the job. Its currenly my favorite way to kill the deerclops because of how easy, quick, and lazy it is. This basically laziness number 1000000000

6. Beefalos
Basically the same with number 5, but with beefalos. Its not recomended because you might have to travel further than the peagulls, but it may work..? i guess?

7. Other bosses
You can lead the deerclops to fight another boss. Some examples are like the beequeen, klaus, dragonfly, spiderqueen, varg (yes ik varg isnt a boss), and more. I have never tried this method before but i heard it works good

or just set deerclops on none lol

If you saved youre Nitre, and have a birdcage, get a bunch of eggs and split the stacks and drop em to let them all rot, make gunpowder with the nitre, rotten egg, and charcoal.

Put deerclops to sleep with either sleep darts or panflute, drop ??? gunpowder and ignite.

If you use too many gunpowder it will fry the items, If you dont use enough youll have to finish him off with your melee weapons.

I've had the deerclops in my first winter. Every time I have survived to day 30- it spawns on day 30. Also had him come again on day 37/8. X(
