Look at any of the experienced servers. Any of them. Level 1. Level 7. 1 is not 40+. 7 is not 25+. 16 is not 30+. Jeez. And maybe that level 16 player is good, and the server has made an exception. Fair enough. But "exception" is hardly the right word for it when every server, every single server, has 2 or 3 low-level players who feel absolutely and unquestionably entitled to be there. There, in the level 40+ server, and NOT the "all welcome" server, and NOT the "5+ learn and have fun" server, and NOT the "10+" server, of which there are three. The level 40+ server.
One of the crucial skills that can't really be taught is teamwork. Will you put what's good for the team ahead of yourself? That's largely an attitude question, and if people don't get it, they won't learn it from a guide or video. If you couldn't be bothered to read a guide or watch a video or spend even ten seconds learning about the game before jumping into a level 40+ server and expecting all the busy people there to drop everything and wipe your ass for you, what does that say about your teamwork skills? Are we going to be able to fix your attitude in five minutes in the lobby, or 30 minutes in the Forge? I think not.

Me: can you leave the server please? you are lvl 1-
Him: ♥♥♥♥ you im staying
Passworded servers.
People who used the matchmaking to join are probably not even aware there's a server name that spell out the requirements.
However if you join a passworded server signaling a minimal level wanted, you are already sending the message "screw you, this rule don't apply to me, I probably won't listen to anything you'll say afterwards."
First impressions matter.
With so many toxic players, you might want to use the server browser to avoid falling on them, and choose a server that explicitly welcome lower levels.
The quick match button, that is how almost every low level (including me) happens to join high level servers. Getting flamed and insulted for accidentally joining isn't helping. Even if people kindly ask you to leave it leaves a sour taste in your mouth. It is an uncomfortable feeling after all.
At least people should explain why exactly they want you to leave. It sucks to see people calling you out on your name and asking you to leave, it equals the "they don't wanna play with me" feeling..

Honestly what needs to be added is the person who started the server gets a kick button and that if you leave a lobby it doesn’t take you back to the start menu of DST.
It’s a pain in the ass for low levels who accidentally fall into a higher level lobby on a quick match, because you have to disconnect entirely to get into a new lobby.
Then on a higher level if some annoying prick is there to just grief, you can’t make them leave. Basically Klei needs to add two things to help with the problem on both ends:
- Make it so leaving a game takes you back to the main roster or lobbies, not disconnecting you entirely
- Kick people from your server
trollers would make non passworded servers just to kick everyone who presses quick match otherwise
