S+ - Wickerbottom (Early science knowledge, books that can instantly grow any plant on the screen, summon birds, put everything to sleep, etc. basically legal game hacks: the character)
S - Wortox (Souls are stupid easy to obtain, he can teleport to anywhere on the screen, including gaps, he can heal himself and anyone in his general radius. Great support character, fun to play.)
S- - Warly (Incredible dishes with some seriously powerful effects, such as complete immunity to wetness, electric damage, glowing, and his spices can finetune any dish into a temporary buff for things like extra damage, defense, and work speed.)
A+ - Woodie (Very versatile druid-like character with transformations that cover multiple jobs. Werebeaver can fall trees almost instantly and mine rocks. Moose can use AoE to kill hordes of spiders, has 90% damage reduction, and great for fighting in general. Goose is great for scouting, good for early game, and can even find the lunar island early without a boat, dig up everything on the lunar island and goose back to the mainland.)
A - Wormwood (Fantastic farming potential, works best with characters like Warly and Wickerbottom who can maximize the usage and potential of Wormwood's crops. Can also eat raw red mushrooms, and any other harmful foods such as monster meat.)
A - WX-78 (Gears are semi rare, but plentiful in the ruins, best ruins rushing character in the game, I don't usually see a WX who doesn't go for the ruins. Can't freeze while overcharged, and can be overcharged by one of Wickerbottom's books. Upgrades are insane statwise. 400 health is hard to kill.)
A - Webber (Can live entirely off of spiders, provide a near infinite amount of silk, eat monster meat, and provide glands for healing/reviving.)
A- - Wigfrid (Can supply the team with helmets, spears, and has a nifty vampiric healing effect for both her health and sanity when dealing damage. Great fighter, I prefer her over Wolfgang personally.)
B+ - Wolfgang (I haven't really seen many Wolfgangs, but he's a great character for completely annihilating bosses. High stats when at full hunger. I personally don't enjoy his playstyle.)
B - Willow (Bernie acts as an incredible distraction/companion for fights when low on sanity, completely immune to fire damage, capable of cooking on her lighter. Bernie can also be held for sanity gain and insulation in winter.)
B- - Maxwell (Great harvester, low maximum health, risky but rewarding. Not too much to Maxwell other than his shadow minions.)
C+ - Wurt (Takes a little while to reach full potential, but Merms are great companions for harvesting and fighting when fed with vegetables, the merm king buffs every merm in the world, and also provides Wurt with stat buffs. With a merm king, all merms become friendly towards other characters.)
C- Winona (Her new buildings are rather specific, and the catapults don't really work well as a defense system, as they will almost always miss a moving target. The spotlight is nice, but doesn't prioritize players properly. She can craft things quickly at the cost of some hunger, her tape is still really really good for repairing valuable clothes and thermal stones, as well as acting as a boat patch.)
D - Wendy (Abigail is rather suicidal, but decent at fighting hordes of weaker enemies like spiders. Wendy doesn't do much damage on her own, and Abigail tends to fight things she cannot win against. Usually gets two shotted by bosses, leaving you to fend for yourself with x0.75 damage.)
D- - Wilson (Doesn't have much going for him besides no downsides and beard. That's his entire character at the moment. Sure, he's meant for beginners, but he just doesn't provide much in his current state.)
