??????????????????????????????
Things that seem to speed up the process:
- building gameplay important structures (Science Machine, Alchemy Engine, Prestihatitator)
- prototyping items
- fighting / killing the giants and bosses
The one thing that definitely slows down the progress is sitting AFK. If you don't get any drops you might have used your limit for the week. It resets at every Thursday.
All of this is for a solo / private run because the servers might have some settings that mess up the timers completely.
There's no way to speed it up. If you just want gifts, godmode yourself and sit next to a science machine and just check it periodically, but there is no way to make it happen faster
This is very incorrect. The process can be neither sped up nor slowed down.
The best way to do it is just stand AFK while you're doing something else with Godmode on. The drops take alot of time to drop cause they made it so you can get all of them if you play a regular amount every day in a week. So it will still take some time.
Well, that's what's happening during my gameplay. If I stand around doing nothing the first drop after the weekly reset can take up to an hour instead of the usual 15-20 minutes while I'm doing stuff.
Recently I also had an situation in which I had to battle two Giants in a short space of time and the next in-game day I got the third and fourth drop one after another in few seconds from eachother.
Like I said, all of this is based on my own experience. I saw Klei's statement about the RNG timing so it might be just luck but I'm sticking with that method because it works every time I get back into the game. I also want to play the game, not just drop stuff :)
The problem is that there's is a ton of discussions on the internet that give you opposite answers.
The Don't Starve Wiki page says this:
"Skins are collected at random times while playing on a DST server, and the timing is weighted so that users who play an average amount of DST in a week should get a few gifts, and those that play a decent amount should get the full four"
Meanwhile I played about 3-4 hours in the last few days and I got all the drops already even though the approximate drop times posted on Reddit look like this:
- The first skin of the week drops after approximately 15 minutes of being on a server
- The second skin drops approximately 2 hours of being on a server after the first skin
- The third skin drops approximately 4 hours of being on a server after the second
- The fourth skin drops approximately 10 hours of being on a server after the third.
Players do not have to be active in order to receive skins, though they must open the earlier gift box to receive the next one. A maximum of 4 gift box's can be earned every week, this counter resets every Thursday.
But... the Don't Starve Wiki also says this:
"The player has to be active in order to receive the skins, and must open the earlier gift box to receive the next one."
And that's what my "doing stuff" rule refers to.
If it's a complete RNG system then I'm the luckiest bastard in the world when it's about drop times :P
But I won't argue with that cause both of you have more game time than me and seem to play Don't Starve pretty regular so your perspective might be different than mine when I jump into the the game for about two week once in a few months.
