What is the reason behind "Rushing The Ruins?
Most people go down there for the armor which seems odd as the shadow armor is superior due to it's abundance. Going down there for gems is the only thing that makes since, Even the really important one is the purple gem. Getting gears for a fridge is useful but a fridge isn't at all necessary so what is it about the ruins that drives so many eager people there.

This question is more about the starting days over any of the later days.
(Prior to the first winter)

Yes, although I play solo I allow anyone who wants to "base" with me to do so.

I assume you mean this for being able to duplicate things though I only hold the purple gem at a higher regard due to it allwing consturction of the shadow manipulator.

yeah but i ain't talking about a world where you want to survive but a world where you want to build a mega base wich is slightly diferent.
and in this case you want to rush the ruins in order to have any kind of materials for later ( even tho it's not necessary) :butterfly:

I see, so people go there to duplicate the resources they have in order to make construction much easeir?

I just wonder how did you play 625 hours and still be questioning about stuff like that.
Rushing ruins is just a decision you make early or not, you generally explore them during your first summer since you go to the caves to escape wild fires and to stay cool.
You can also decide not to explore them early, it doesn't matter. :butterfly:

My whole time spent playing dst has been between days 1 and 53, basically I've never seen summer. So for me things people know and undestand are a mystery to me, one of those things is what a megabase is or at least what is the purpose of one.

It's basically the novelty of fighting Dragonfly before Winter, I think.

Functionally, if that person is planning to play long-term:
- DF drops scales for an eternal firepit
- Ruins gives extra gears and cool armor and gem things so they don't have to go down later, especially for the flingo in Summer.

You also have the amulet that produces light and makes you faster, (can't remember name.)
Magiluminesence, The Yellow Gem Amulet
(Not sure of the spelling, and dont know how to quote yet)
