Don't Starve Together

Not the best at this game, how much stuff do I need for BQ?
I'd like to try killing Bee Queen solo without use of the Wickerbottom tentacle trap(I want to play a different character, prolly Woodie(making sure I'm nowhere near beavering of course)), but she's tough and I want to make sure I have a fair chance at winning before I hammer that hive... How much armor/healing/etc. do you guys recommend having?

The one where you keep the grumble bees off by making them walk a maze? Yeah I've seen that too, and yeah I can see how it'd help, getting stunlocked is no fun.

If you haven't already, go to the caves, hammer as many Rabbit Hutches as possible and relocate them on the surface, preferably next to the queen's hive. If not then you'll have to befriend each one and bring them to the queen. Anyways, with about 18, all of em wearing Beekeeper Hats, they can pretty easily wreck Bee Queen, as long as you're killing/distracting the spawned grumble bees of course. It may take a while to get all the silk needed for hats and sometimes the caves only have enough for 12 hutches so you'd have to work your way up, but it's definitely worth it. If the healing food you bring is meat based (Pierogi, Jerky) then make sure to keep it in chester so that you don't get demolished by the rabbits first. Recommended 2-3 beekeeper hats for yourself and about 12 Pierogi/any other 40hp food.

I have a few quick questions. 1. Are Webber's spiders affected by the whole "follower-scaring roar" thing that the ANR bosses do? 2. Can BQ hit multiples at once like Deerclops etc. and if so, how large is BQ's AoE? 3. Do spiders eat Royal Jelly? The reason for these questions is that I remember that bosses that lack a large AoE(Moose/Goose etc.) are highly vulnerable to large numbers of smaller enemies(frogs during frog rain, Webber's army, etc.). So I was wondering if Webber would be a viable pick to essentially out-swarm and overpower her... :P

1. Yes, and they will actually fall asleep afterwards thanks to their weird ai. Of course they'll wake up about 3 seconds later since you/another spider will be attacked.
2. Bee Queen is not AoE, but she does have a long range and thanks to her bees, she can attack multiple enemies at once, but usually the bees only attack whatever is currently attacking her.
3. Nope, Royal Jelly is supposed to be like the Royal Jelly in real life... it's just honey... but better... and made for the Queen.

It is in fact possible to kill the queen with spiders... but, um. I only know this thanks to actually having it happen before, some guy had 12 spider dens and they hit tier 3, and surprise surprise our base was next to the Hive. He actually had a few spiders left after the fight... just a few. Well, I will admit the fight did go a lot quicker than with Bunnies, but it really does take a while to get 12 tier 3 spider dens.

Out of simple curiousity, did you manage to get the Spider Warriors from said dens in on the fight, or was it just the Spiders? Also, if I manage to have a Spider Queen or two in the area, will either type of Queen target the other/is there any way I could get them to aggro? Or will the Spider Queens just sit there on the sidelines and pump out babies the whole time?

Here is everything you need to know:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbYyUFe3FvA

Keep in mind there are bazillion methods on killing Bee queen.
Some straight from my head:
- Wolfgang solo fence labyrinth with max damage buff.
- Sleep dart/freeze and blowing up with massive gunpowders
- Bunnymen or Pigmen armies with beekeeper hats
- Houndius shootius death labyrinth
- Wickerbottom solo tentacle trap death fields

etc etc

If you know the AI of grumble bees and bee queen she really is easy to solo kill or duo with good vet friend. But getting started and understand her is the hard part.
Also this helps alot too:

http://dontstarve.wikia.com/wiki/Bee_Queen

As standard gear i suggest massive beekeeper hat, magniumlescense for speed and lightbuff, hambat and alot of royal jelly or honey poulices. Usually for solo runs with damage buff about 8-10 beekeeper hats are enough. Depends ofc how fast you bum rush kill her. So you would want to farm about 1-2 full stacks of silk and grasses.

edit: Webber is a crap raid boss killer. Full stop. His spider army and spider queens DON'T work vs raid bosses, because bad AI and klei nerfs. Same applies to maxwell shadow armies. Both are very very bad team additions for raids. Especially since shadow warrior and spider warriors can't wear football helmets or beekeeper hats.

Redhead: Yeah IK it'd take a crapton due to the helmets thing, was just curious. If I wanted to rush Gunpowder, maybe not just for BQ but for other bosses too, I could get rotten eggs faster by putting eggs on the ground away from meat eating mobs and soaking them with waterballoons right?

Just some random data:

I did a test on a klei server with a maxwell friend:

5 pigs with Beekeeper hat + Beekeeper Wigfrid + Football Maxwell + 1 Shadow sword man.

We could fight for about 2 days straight, but she didn't die. We farmed 2x full silk stacks + cut stone + boards + 40 spider glands

Came to day 21 in winter.

I would have guess that she had 70% life left idk. Sadly the pigs didn't focus the boss enough!

The reason for that is that you want bunnies, not pigs, and you need more than 5 IIRC
(The pigs' kiting AI plus the BQ's roar just make it so the pigs almost never attack.)

Yes but it was a speedrun test. We had specifically said restricted time to 2 speedrun.
At least was funny test :p

I couldn't make bunnys because it's more fast and efficient to farm pighouses on the surface.
We did specifically not include caves on this test.

So how many bunnymen and or pigs are required better for a solo speedrun? 8+ ? 12 ?

Not an expert, but pretty sure it's something along those lines...
