Technicly You can do it even with Wes.

The best character no matter pretty much any situation, is Wickerbottom. I'm saying this with no bias either, she's just regarded as the best.

Other characters that could work would be Wigfrid, WX-78, Wolfgang, Maxwell

It all comes down to preference.

1st.Do you want characters that do well when your doing very well.

2nd.Characters that get you to doing very well but don't have as many advantages once you're there.

3rd.Or a character with safety nets in place to prevent specific issues.
(My favorite type of character)

4th.Or wikkerbottom (I hate her).

Assuming your turning your game into cheese use the fourth option.

Yep, Ozzey has a point. Wicker is Godmode and if you want to have fun you should just play as who you want to.

You can also install mod with mob scaling (1 player = Vanilla DS HP, 2 players = 2x Vanilla DS HP, etc.). :dswilson:

Wickerbottom is not only a great team player but a great solo character as well, due to being able to craft most things on day1 and having most of her books still benefit her when she's all by herself. Her only downside isn't really a downside. You shouldn't need to sleep so long as you have good health and sanity management.

Wolfgang is a mixed bag. You won't have to share your food with anyone so that's more for you to eat, but you won't have anyone to help you gain it either. That said when I played solo as Woodie I usually had far more food than I needed anyways just from trying to kill all the beefalo I could.

I have to add that Wickerbottom is a pretty terrible char for newcomers. I saw too many noobs dying to terrorbeak and shadows too many times. Only cause "how do i fix sanity".
Also the can't sleep downside is big, sleep is not only good for sanity but also for quick and relativelly cheap healing!
Yes Wickerbottom is nice to have science machine and backpack from day one, but many newcomers don't scale well with her, they build a starting base and later almost forgot she has endgame books like tentacle or sleepytime story books etc. At start wickerbottom is not so easy to get used to.

So for starter i would suggest Winona or Wilson. Pretty nice to learn the game, especially when you build many meaty effigies.

If you really like to fight alot and don't use surrounding to kill bosses etc get Wolfgang or Wigfrid.
All other are pretty situational.

I like WX78. Being able to eat spoiled food is nice until you can get a fridge / cookpot / meat racks up for constant source of fresh food, killing chess pieces for gears to improve yourself is all very handy

rain is annoying but with umbrella and other rain protection it's hardly an issue
