Your base placement?
Hello everybody! I've been playing DST for a while now, and I'm never really sure where to build a base. I dont know if I should be near the PK, or in an area with a ton of farmable stuff, or what. I'd like to know where all of you build, and why. ALL responses are welcomed! Thanks!

I like basing pk as long as the beefalo arent across the map and same with oasis, i dont like basing near resources because once u use up the rss the area becomes very useless

Hmm, alright. That makes sense. Is the Oasis just for the Antlion? (I always have Summer/Winter turned off for my server, I find the seasons to be too hard)

Basing at the oasis is usually not just for Antlion. In the sandstorm during summer, there are no wildfires in the oasis (where the sandstorm is). So if you base at oasis, you can build your base not worrying about summer or flingomatics.

I always base at oasis for this reason. I'm not really a cave person, so I'd much rather stay in base during summer.

The top two placed I love to build bases are close to the beefalo and in the swamp area

Why the Swamp?

I always aim for the oasis if the dragon fly desert if connected/close by. Even better if I can get to the swamp and/or pig king quickly but the oasis is my base location.

Why the Swamp?

Easy protection whenever hounds spawn plus the added bonus of being able to collect silk, glands, frog legs and fish from mobs running into tenticles :sans:

Theres an oasis? How am I only finding this out nowww lmao

I always make a base in a piece of land that stems out into the ocean, like a pennisula. It's like owning your own island which is fun i guess

My main bases happen to be in the middle of the map, relatively close to everything. All 4 wormholes are near useless in current world. But Bee Queen is in center, and all important areas are 1-3 biomes away. So I'll settle pigs/rabbits right at the queen, and place main base at nearby crossroads.

But nothing is as permanent as temporary. It's fall of second year, and all I have is temp base. Near starting portal, 5x5 tile junkyard, without chests. Logic was: I do have materials for Alchemy, it's not a dead end location, close to grass, close to stone, close to forest, close to cave, beef are 2 biomes away.
Not sure, if nearby moose nests count as advantage or disadvantage. I didn't notice them, until spring. Suddenly, I had 2 moose descending near my base, as I fought them, 3-rd one appeared.

On that notice, it's bad to settle too close to pigs/rabbits/catcoons, with any character. Accidents happen. ('♥♥♥♥ ate 6 gears)

I started building my base around the moon stone area, when you place a Star Caller Staff and it transforms into a Moon Caller's Staff you get an infinite source of light covering a very big area and that light also lowers your temperature which is very nice during summer.

Agreed, the desert allows easy access to dragonfly, allowing you to farm gems and scales.

The desert also has access to cactus, which is great for any non Wigfrid/Maxwell player, and tumbleweeds allow you to farm grass and twigs much faster than a regular grass/twig farm, same goes for grass gekos if you're lucky enough for them to spawn near your base setup.

i honestly agree but i base near the oasis (mainly becuase the sandstorm prevents wildfires)
