How do you make a Caves only map?

I want to make the game start as a caves only map. I'm trying to do a caves only map with friends. Does anyone know if there are any mods for this or have any tips?

I don't believe that this is possible. However, you can use commands to place a sinkhole right next to the florid postern and then place obelisks/basalt to force people to go inside.

However, people can still go back to the surface from other sinkholes in the world. If you're willing to put the effort in, you can go around and delete each entrence/exit around the map.

I have never hosted a caves-only server, so I don't know if it (still) works, but in theory it should.

yes that's what i once did.

remember that caves doesn't grant you access to certain base structures such as bird cage because can't get seeds and even if so you can't catch a bird in the caves and thus it is not advisable to make farms either even though you could seed carrots from bunnyman if you had a birdcage with a bird, but you don't. yes, since pigs exist through hammering touchstone pigheads you could acquire manure through were pigging light bulbs.

can't get certain gear such as a tam or warm cloths since you have no access to beefalos and their wool. only thing to make is ear muffs and a thermal stone. yes, since ear muffs are renewable through earthquake rabbits, so is making magic stations.

fuel weaver fight can't be done since you need to have a moon and the different clockwork sketches from setpieces on the overworld.

for spring you could use the rain coat if you get 2 spots from killing big tentacles or find the underground swamp. just find some random boons in the world and you have it. alternatively, since there is the possibility to kick off a pig farm if you get your hands on the pigskin through touchstones. a umbrella works for spring too and actually makes sense since walking cane can't be made.

you could be lucky and have a boon with a walking cane or get a lazy explorer through killing the ancient guardian.

no sewing kits since hounds are overworld only mobs. it makes for a great challenge though having to craft new gear and it's all pretty much renewable underground as i said.

a interesting detail that i've noticed is that during summer you're not experiencing cave ins because without a overworld and no antlion, nothing causes cave ins in a caves only world.



all in all a nice challenging thing to do when regular dst gets boring for you, but the tedious restrictions in the caves such as limited access to popular food such as bacon and eggs, honey dishes, pierogy makes it kinda annoying if you plan to do like mega basing. ruins stuff isn't fully renewable either because we can't kill df or reset the ruins through defeating the fw.
