Yes. The one thing that makes it so clear, is that common foreign animes tend to focus more on body and sexuality or related emotions.
While DST's style focuses more on character's face, to bring mystery to the table.
Actually the very first time I agree totally with your words.
Anime is anime and I have nothing against the people who enjoy it BUT it doesn't need to be in every game and specially not in games like DST which has as you said just a unique style and art where anime is just not fitting in.
Sure, that style has it's own audience and there is nothing against that. It's about where it's used.
And ofc it's optional and people are free to do whatever mod they want.

That's true. Especially because the common anime tend to focus at emotions and happy stuff as you said. But DST however, focuses more at dark side of the characters and mysteries of them.
