Lureplant never drop what it stole

When I first played this game and died from the eyeplant, I thought it was a mechanic in the game where you'll lose your stuff permanently if they were eaten by them. Normally I'd quickly go back and kill the plant as revenge and accepted that my stuff is all gone.

After reading the wiki, it said you can retrieve them back within 20s after it consumed the items. Which left me in a bit of a predicament. It never drops anything it ate. I've tested with various items/watching it eats anything near it and I immediately swoop in for the kill. It dies but nothing drops except the fleshy bulb. Am I missing something? I'm already close to 400h of play time and I only just noticed this :/

*Tested with my friend on her server and the lureplant didn't drop anything there either.

it will eat the first item of a stack instantly i think, but will take 20s to eat another of the stack

Is there a 'Lureplant for dummies' guide? I honestly don't understand how the thing works. The eyeplant even managed to spawn on cobblestone where my berry garden was and ate the powdercake bait.

To be fair, I was still new to the game when that happen and decided to just keep playing while avoiding the lureplant altogether.
