Don't Starve Together

How do people deal with giant monsters out of nowhere?
Had a decent game going with a friend. Was part way through winter, when a roaring starts up, coming closer. Suddenly an Eyeclops (?) shows up, one shots half our base, kills my friend and I barely survive fighting it off.

I decide to go out and collect materials for better walls and run into a Bearger. It stunlocks me completely (I fall asleep repeatedly while fighting it? WTF is *that* about?) and kills me. ...or rather the swarm of wolves in the middle of the fight does.

I understand this is basically an extreme survival game where you're expected to die at some point, but when everything around you is suddenly angry boss monsters with problems, it turns into kind of a disappointment.

So actually I have two questions here.

First, how do people tend to deal with giant monsters? This is basically my only time fighting one, and if they're behavior is to spawn next to the base and try to destroy it, then that's kinda f'ed up.

Second, is there a less hostile mode for this game? The death while fighting the Bearger was... to put it simply... stupid as hell. How are you supposed to fight a giant boss who puts you to sleep repeatedly while also fending off 5 or six wolves? What was the plan here?

Do I have to go into custom worlds and make a twinky version with no enemies or attacks in order to get anywhere in the game, or is the game specifically designed to only be played by 5 or 6 players at once? Can this game be played without all the instant death by random giant monsters?

I mostly play this game for the social aspect (playing with a friend) and the base building. I don't mind the survival part of it; I'm pretty good at keeping food nearby and hunting and such. But doing all that work and getting so far only to have one huge, really hard to kill monster just stomp it into the ground is frankly depressing and frustrating. I don't play games to experience more of that RL stuff in my games. I want to have fun and get some small sense of accomplishment and progress, not play knowing it's all pointless because some overpowered beast is gonna come wreck everything.

Sorry if I'm coming across as upset, but I really kinda am. I was trying to get a friend into this game and we were enjoying ourselves until the combo of a winter raid by wolves, an eyeclops and a bearger ended everything suddenly. I just want to deal with the survival aspects that AREN'T huge 'two shot and you're dead' boss monsters tag teaming me and my friend, with swarms of smaller ones helping.

I just read up a bit on the Bearger.

Did they really give it a yawn that puts everyone to sleep while it kills them in a game like this? o.o;

That's freakin evil! This thing can kill you in three, maybe four hits, and it can put you to sleep while it wails on you. Unbelievable.

Someone at youtube said- "use a boomerang then run away to wake him up without passing out. Also only fight him during Autumn, it isn't worth it any other season. "

I just turn giants off. Im ok without them.

1. Make 'emergency base' not to close to Your main base with basic supplies.
2. When You hear growling of BBF (Big Bad F**cker) run to it, even in middle of night (torches will be helpfull).
3. ALWAYS have few wooden armors + maybe pig helmets when You want to fight this abominations.
4. Learn to kite. Hit and run tactic. You can read how many hits You can bang on BBF before he hits You.
5. If You are not playing as Wigfrid, grab cooked green shrooms for sanity buff. BFFs drain sanity really fast, so if You dont want fight with shadows in middle of fight shroomies will be helpfull.

And thats is just basic knowladge about fighting bosses. Rest is experiance. :P

Bearger hibernates during Winter & Spring. Attacking him during anytime that isn't Auttumn or Summer will cause him to use the yawn attack. It is not part of the normal fight.

Deerclops always spawns on the night of Day 30 during the first Winter. After that, Deerclops can spawn randomly if the current season is Winter, although there is a large time window between his audio queues (him groaning every 10 seconds-ish) and your character commenting on it. After this happens 3-ish times, Deerclops spawns, giving you time to put space between you and your base. Deerclops despawns when Winter ends.

Bearger is Autumn's seasonal boss, meaning that his method of spawning is very similar to Deerclops (see above), however you'll hear distinct roaring. Also, note that Bearger isn't initially hostile to the player. He may go in your base and raid your ice box for food, which will probably cause him to trample over multiple important structures in doing so, but other than that, It's perfectly reasonable to just leave him in a forest far from base or something. Bearger should hibernate (ie fall asleep and not wake up naturally) when Autumn ends, and Winter starts.

However, note that if you kill Deerclops or Bearger (or they otherwise die in any way) another one cant spawn for the rest of the current season.

These are called Giants, and there's every one for each season.

The Deerclops is the first you will meet. he spawns in Winter, day 30.
His goal is to destroy your base and leave, so what you should do, is to go around 5 screens away from your base and plant a fire pit. You will hear growling, which tells you he is near.

He has an AOE attack, which freezes you, and the best way to kite is 2-3 hits per run (4 with walking cane)

Pretty easy to kill, if you and your friend can coordinate.

The next giant is the Moose / Goose in Spring, which can be found in these little setpieces:

Setpiece: Pond, Berry Bushes, Carrots, and a little crater.
Easily avoidable.

The giant after that has one (well 2, but eh.) The Antlion in Summer. You'll find him in the Oasis desert.

But in order to fight him, you have to go to the Oasis and fish Desert Goggles Blueprint and the Fashion Goggles Blueprint. You will need those to run at normal speed ( and see ) in the Oasis desert. Then, you will have to find the Antlion and feed him an ice cold thermal stone, and proceed to attack. It's rather easy, just avoid the spikes and keep on hitting him.

If you choose to ignore the Antlion, he will form sinkholes which damage the player and destroy structures, so its best to kill.

Dragonfly is available all year, so easily avoidable.

Bearger arrives in next Autumn, and he is basically like the Deerclops except his attacks can make you drop your weapon and can make you fall asleep.

And hey, its fine to make mistakes, and if your base gets destroyed or something, go type in chat (Y key to activate chat) and type /rollback which will reset your world to yesterday. Really handy. Another way to rollback is to press TAB (Default key) and press that square with 3 dots at the top left corner, and press rollback.

And another piece of advice, if you find monsters a bit hard, you can go get the mod "Automatic Health Adjust" which adjusts health of monsters according to the amount of players. It's helpful too.

And if you really wanna disable giants, you can do so in the "Forest" Tab when you make a world. just scroll down to Monsters and press disable.

Hope this helps :dsham::dsham:

For Bearger, a panflute and 24 gunpowder. Put him to sleep, place gunpowder, light it and run. When he wakes up he'll be on fire for a moment while you are passed out. When you are able to get up and the fire is out just whack him a few times to finish him off. Make sure he is done burning before killing him so the loot doesn't get burnt.

Deerclops, only 18 gunpowder is needed.

Moose Goose is I think 24 gunpowder as well.

Just make sure to run away from camp when you hear the growls so you don't have to worry about burning down camp.

In case of bearger -> take him into some big ass forest -> make him destroy some trees -> tree guards will be angry and they will kill bearger

Ye, BBF have natural immunity vs gunpowder. You can put 1k in their a$$ and that gona do nothing. Or maybe 10 will do dmg.

Yep, it's about double the gunpowder needed in DST. In DS Deerclops only takes 9 gunpowder to weaken him.
