How to fish using Xbox 360 controller?

Please would someone tell me how to fish using the Xbox 360 controller?

My girlfriend and I are playing from our couch... she is using a laptop with a mouse, I'm using the TV and a controller.

She tells me that she just equips the fishing rod, left-clicks on a lake, then her character casts the line out. When I equip my fishing rod and approach a lake, I only get the prompt "Y to inspect".

You should be getting another prompt, like B or X to fish...not sure right now which one it was.
