No-eyed deer spawn conditions

I encountered some no-eyed deers in one of my worlds during the first Autumn. I didn't know what they were at the time so I left them alone. I am currently 10 days into the second Autumn but they are nowhere to be found.

According to the wiki they spawn 3-5 days into Autumnm so I am wondering if the spawn is actually guaranteed or if there are other conditions I don't know about. I used the command c_gonext("deer") to be absolutely sure and can confirm they are missing.

I even tried in some test worlds. Start in Autumn, wait a week, check the map. No success.

Does anybody know what might be happening ?

You might just not have found the herd yet. Or they were squished by something else already (mating beefalo/tentacles/etc).

So you are saying its possible for them to spawn later than day 5 ? I wait 7 days to be sure usually...

Also, they are supposed to spawn in the deciduous or mosaic biome so they shouldnt die like that. There is always a possibility but I've tested in 4-5 worlds. That means they got murdered each time ? Or I don't wait long enough....
