TYVM for the "informative" reply.
Make hunting a koalefant a priority before (or early into) winter, and shave some beefalo for a hat. Keep a good amount of spare wood. Keep a backpack or two of sticks and grass, just in case. Catch fireflies to make a light hat. And in case of wolf / frog swarms, beefalo and spiders will make excellent distractions.
Why does the game even have an option for solo if Dev's don't want people to play solo?... I mean why isn't single player scaled like it's suppose to be(much easier than MP)? Are they trying to force people into buying DS?
I'd think it's more that they err more on the difficult side of balance so that multiplayer isn't a total cakewalk. Solo is definitely still possible. And in time once you acclimate to the balance, you'll probably appreciate the added challenge.
Also though you didn't mention anything about mods, I have seen a couple that do rebalance health at the very least, scaling it to the number of players. You could give one of those a whirl and see if perhaps they add to your enjoyment.
I'll be honest. I'm one of those people who believes MODs just ruins the game/fun. It's basically cheating.
Anyway.. Other than difficuly, how different is DS from DST? Maybe i'll buy and play DS i guess...
Other than monster health, I believe there are more items, more bosses, more events, and perhaps different interactions with certain things. I know that sounds vague but it's been quite some time since I have played the original.
If you're looking for a more progression-based, gradual game, then it does sound like the single player game might be more your thing. But I will heartily endorse that this game is quite worth the time spent on it. I've had good times alone and with others.
Yes obviously DST is harder if you want to solo it legit. Monsters alone got twice hp and just look at raid bosses. Novice or casual players will never be able to kill Dragonfly , Bee queen , Toadstool or shadoweaver for their own, because it requires too much skill / preparation / proper strategies or cheesting when you solo them.
You can always switch back to singleplayer DS. There you got bonus of special DLC , story mode and pause button at any time :3
But i would say according to difficulty i would classify the different worlds from hardest to easiest as follows:
Shipwrecked super hard > DST raids middle hard > DS or Reign of giants fairly easy when you got experience
For classic singleplayer DS the shipwrecked is really the hardest, because your alone + the water bosses are super hard, since when you die on the ocean you will drown and instantly die + island setup is harder to farm many ressources efficiently.
Anyway good luck at choosing the fitting experience for yourself !
What do you mean switch back? I only bought DST. Thought i could enjoy solo and mp. Then y go for DS...but i guess Dev's thought the same thing and fxked up DST solo.
With switch back i mean long term classic DS fans got basically EA version of DST for free. It was a promised gift. Sorry i thought ur a fan from DS times. Ah da nostalgia xD
Anyway there was possibility to also buy the DS mega pack or something. There you get DST + DS at cheap discounts. I think that package is best.
Both games are great and formidable software and they play differently. Trust me DS can be very terrifing because your always alone and cant be carried and such. All mistakes are your own mistakes and you have to be very careful lol ^^
I got the game DST as a gift from my friend. He bought it and shared the 2nd key with me.
And as a bonus the avatars in classic DS are stronger and better balanced for solo experience. For example maxwell in DST plays very differently and very weak.
But in classic DS maxwell is quite cool to play :3
